Owner description: The Sapphire Sweet Shop and Gem Mine takes visitors back to the olden days. Our mine is set under a canopy of trees and alongside a running stream. We are not plopped in a parking lot along the side of a busy road. We cater to families and assure that each and every person who walks onto our property has a great time at a reasonable price. The sweet shop is an old timey candy shop which looks the part and carries a line of hand-dipped chocolates, ice cream and retro candies. Out back you will find picnic areas, a log amphitheater and 4 primitive campsites.

“Beautiful, tranquility under a canopy of ancient trees. Wonderful place to take your children for fun and education.”

If you are planning on visiting Sapphire, North Carolina or anywhere in the Western North Carolina area there is one place that you just have to go. The Sapphire Sweet Shop and Gem Mine on Highway 64 between Brevard and Cashiers is a fantastic place to take your children or grandchildren for some good clean fun... well maybe clean is just a relative word. Your children will have the chance to play in the dirt and water while they pan for Sapphires, Rubies, Topaz, Emeralds, Rose and Smoky Quartz and Amethyst just to name a few. Under the guidance and direction of their staff, the children are supervised while mining. Younger children who tire of panning sooner than their brothers and sisters have fun racing a rubber ducky down the flume. After panning for gems you can go inside the sweet shop and enjoy some old-fashioned candy, great cookies, ice cream and drinks. The sweets inside are delicious!!! I can't say what was better - the sweets or the peaceful setting of the flume. What a beautiful place to spend the afternoon. They even have camping areas and a campfire ring. I recommend the Sapphire Sweet Shop and Gem Mine for anyone wanting to take their family for a fun outing.

“A must see attraction-very unique”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

The Sapphire Sweet Shop and Gem Mine Village is a must see attraction and worth the trip. Make sure you bring the kids or the grandkids too, they'll have a blast. The grounds are beautiful, and the candy shop is incredible, it's like a step back in time. And I have to say the candy is VERY VERY GOOD.

“THE Sapphire area location to gem mine at!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013 via mobile

My brother and I stopped here one afternoon looking for gifts to take home. They have a great variety of buckets to pick from, clean and extensive sluice seating, and fantastic homemade fudge and chocolate caramel! Also, ask to try his specially mixed and roasted coffee! We got a mid sized bucket, and found a gallon baddie worth of quartz, Topaz, emerald, Sapphire, Ruby, etc. They were knowledgeable about which stones were which gem type, and Happily honest! Will definitely revisit next time we are in the area!!!
