“Mt Buller Chalet - old and run down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012 via mobile

All staff friendly and fantastic except breakfast staff who were grumpy and made everything out to be an effort. Place is run down and old. Location great but not value for money when paying one if the highest prices on the mountain

My four year old daughter was bitten by bed bugs. We reported this to the hotel manager as soon as we discovered it (a day after we returned home). The response was of surprise and they promised to contact us to confirm their findings (five days have passed and no contact has been made).
In the meantime, we had a sleepless night itching and then we had to buy various creams to calm the itch.
Overall, the rooms were very expensive for their age and facilities (e.g. no dishwasher).
THe location was excellent.
THe staff were sometimes very helpful and sometimes very unhelpful (esp at breakfast and at ski hire).

Room Tip: Don't choose room 304.

Dear Sonja,

Thank you kindly for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at Grand Mercure Mt Buller Chalet.

Further to our conversation on Tuesday last week, I was unable to gain access to the room you stayed in as the in house guests would not allow our team in.

We take the matter of bed bugs very seriously as soon as the guest's checked out on Friday we went in there and could not find any traces of bed bugs.

Unfortunately I was unable to call on Wednesday and Thursday as I was in training sessions and I do not call guests outside 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday unless they request me to do so, hence I will be calling you this morning to discuss this with you.

It is very important for us to receive feedback from our guests so that we can continually improve our service.

Kind regards,

Renae Kennedy

Considering that there are not very many luxury accommodations in Mt Buller this one does fit in well for the piece one pays. The location is top notch as one just needs to head out and start skiing. Closeby to the little village town which makes it a preferred choice. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Skiing being the forte we were not focusing a lot on the accommodation choice. This one yet is one of the nicest in the region.

I always enjoy my time at Mt Buller - especially with the good snow currently falling!
Chalet is in a great location, rooms are good and clean.
Breakfast needs improvement, staff are friendly majority of the time - guess it depends on if they went out the night before!

Apres is good fun, can get busy, but great spot for a after ski drink and relax!
I will return!

Ski in ski out which is great, the twin room we had was pretty good. Clean and quite.

The breakfast staff need some polishing up. They clearly had not been trained even in the most basic of tasks like taking a coffee order. Which when your paying top dollar you would expect better service levels. Same goes for the front bar, sadly a pretty grumpy bunch.

Mt Buller Chalet is one of the best places to stay on Mt Buller.

Good location next to the base of Bourke St, nice bar and amenities including a pool, spa and gym.

My criticisms would be after staying here numerous times that the breakfast buffet lacks fresh produce like fruit, a cappacino is not part of the free breakfast and costs extra, the pool and spa need to be heated to a higher temperature.

The rooms are good albeit expensive but that's the snow in Australia. The service in the restaurants is poor. And the Apres cafe is unclean. We'd bought drinks in the bar and got a bowl of chips from the cafe. We were asked to leave the bar because we had food from the cafe. There was nobody else in the bar. No solution was provide and the rules had changed from prior visits. The Manager's attitude was very poor and with a room that was $790 for the night, you would expect better treatment.
