I booked my accommodation through travel website (Rates to Go). Was looking for an extended visit in the Barossa in the medium price range and this choice was excellent. Its a cross between the bigger, pricier resorts, the BandB's, or hotel (pub) accommodation at one of the hotels in the area. The Motor Lodge is part of Australia's Golden Chain motel group and is your standard motel. Room was clean, functional, no problems with bathroom or toilet, fridge a little small (bar fridge size), but i thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Reception staff were friendly and efficient.
There is the the Bacchus Restuarant onsite, breakfasts are delivered to your room (order the previous evening before 9pm).
The Motor Lodge is also a convention centre so is a great place for conferences etc with internet access and business space when needed.
The purpose of my stay was to visit wineries and engage in winetasting and wine education and there are many wineries within moderate walking distance, however, I'd recommend a car for the visit if your stay in the area is going to be longer than a day or two. You could drive/rent from Adelaide however there is a rental agency in Tanunda.
Lots of good restaurants and cafes in the town of Tanunda, and I ate regularly at the Tanunda Hotel where the meals are excellent and the servings are large (typical country hospitality).
I'd thoroughly recommend this place to anyone intending to visit the Barossa Valley for an overnight stay, or longer.
