“Good food, mixed beer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

I have always been a fan of Barossa Valley Brewing's 'Bee Sting' beer, so we stopped in for lunch when in Tanunda. The brewery offers a beer tasting course as well as tapas and pizza.

On the beers, a couple of them were very nice (bee sting and organic ale in particular). However, several of them were an exercise in masochism, with ridiculously silly quantities of hops tipped into the brew to the point where the beer was borderline undrinkable. While some may regard this as 'boutique', in my view it simply lacks sophistication and subtlety.

The food was very good, however. The pizza had a great base and good, balanced toppings made from local ingredients. The 'tapas' (a nice olive plate and some french fries) were solid too, although we did get served an extra plate of one item and it was unclear to us whether we'd mistakenly been charged twice for it.

Service could be better, as other reviews have said, but it was nothing too bad. Several people working there appeared almost totally unfamiliar with the beer and food menus, which was odd.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and give us feedback. we are very pleased your experience was enjoyable. I take on board your comments re: our more experimental beers. However we are committed to experimentation and exploring the full range of what beer has to offer. Our Imperial IPA does polarize, many would agree with you but we also have many that have declared this their all time favourite. Being a small craft brewery we take full advantage to bring variety to our customers, something the commercial brewers can not do. Hope you find your way back to experience our next creation...it maybe a beer you love but will make no promises.

Cheers

“Bad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

Despite the usual bad review here and there I thought I would give it a go as people tend to write negative reviews, I wish I had listened to them!
I had prebooked the table for ten people, when we arrived we were shown to our less than adequate seating which consisted of table tops on top of barrels which of course meant there was no leg room at all not to mention how we were squashed in. The table would have suited six people not ten.
The drinks were brought over to the table (what drink they had as there were two missing from what they had on the menu) which included coke and cider with no ice in and warm glasses.
I had Lamb which was really good but at $25 was definitely at least $5 over priced especially as it was being eaten off plastic plates with plastic knifes and forks. The pizza was good too but the portion of fries and the sliders were horrendously over priced and lacking any fulfillment.
Some of the staff were good but some really need a lot of training.
The beer was great and there was a good selection with the tasting plate but we had to wait because they didn't have enough glasses?!
There were some other small things like there was no fresh air in the room which wasn't pleasant and the door which leads out to the Toilets consistently slamming.

I really don't understand how they can get it so wrong, don't go there.

I am disappointed tripadvisor allowed this review to be published as it was made by an intoxicated patron who was asked to leave. This patron threatened a bad review if we did not continue to serve them. I do not believe this an accurate and valid review of the venue

“A very accommodating, comfortable experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2013

We came here on a Saturday night despite some average reviews. We were extremely happy with all aspects of the venue. The staff were extremely accommodating when I made a request for a gluten free pizza, by buying the bases in especially! Service was friendly and helpful, beers were great as was the food. My husband had an awesome steak and the rest of us had great pizzas. We will definitely be back again soon. Thankyou

“Meh”

Service was fine. Loved the ginger beer. Managed to fit us in even though they were busy. Food was very average and far too expensive for what was basicslly pub food.

“service needs work.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

maybe they need more people? the place was busy on friday night and the staff seemed overwhelmed and confused. one person seemed to know what was going on but she also was trying to do everything. we just wanted beers and waited quite a while to get those. people at the tables around us seemed to be waiting a long time for their food orders.
