“Group visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

A group of about 12 people including some from overseas visited and stayed overnight. We were served dinner and were able to utilize the facilities of the home. A wonderful experience which ensured we understood the days of yesteryear.

“Mintaro in the Clare Valley SA”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

If you are in the Clare Valley South Australia, don't miss the tiny hamlet of Mintaro. It as if time stood still since 1849 and reminded us a little of the Cotswolds area in UK. Start with lunch at Reilly's Cellar Door and restaurant, the local foods Gourmet Platter at $20, washed down with the best Rose/Grenache & Sangiovese and friendly service. Walk the great local food garden behind this delightful stone cottage! On to Martindale Hall, an 1841, huge Georgian Manor & Coach House.
Left original and intact from the last owner in 1950, and despite the sad lives of the previous occupants, it will transport you back to a lost era in rural South Australia.

“Nice but a bit freaky”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

We visited on a drizzly day and there was just the two of us plus the doorperson. A bit freaky with nobody else wandering around.... or was there?....?

“Great stop away from the vineyards”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

Martindale Hall offers an interesting heritage perspective in the middle of a wine region. It gives an overview of upmarket living in rural Australia in the 1800s, with great sandstone buildings. The shooting room is a little unnerving, but most of the other rooms offer an interesting perspective on life and times. Small enough to see in 30-45 minutes. Downside is the entry fee -- it's a little steep at $10.
