Description: La Pecora Nera (The Black Sheep) is an Authentic Italian Eatery (Woodoven Pizzeria & Osteria) located in the picturesque town of Burra in the mid-noth of South Australia. Everything revolves around the magnificent wood-fired oven. It's Italian food as it was meant to be - fresh, vibrant & delicious - the closest you can get to dining out in Rome without traveling to Rome itself! Our ever-changing menu includes: Antipasti (cured meats, cheese, olives & other delicasies) ; Insalate (Salads) & Insalatoni (Big Salads); Pasta (both durum wheat & gluten free); Traditional Woodoven Pizza, Dolci (Sweets & Deserts); Gelati & Caffe (Coffee) Buon Appetito!

“Tad expensive for pizza”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

We recently dined at The Black Sheep whilst staying in Clare so it's quite a drive. The atmosphere and service is first class, but don't be talked into "just let Paolo feed you". Antipasti - perfect, pasta - not good, pizza - just, dessert was a selection so much better, coffee - just, limencello - great finish. We took our own wine, but still our bill was $110, way too much for a pizza restaurant. Order your own pizza and antipasti and you will come away much better off. As a comparison we paid the same price for a 5***** meal at 1918 in Tanunda the previous evening.

“A revelation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Found this unassuming little restaurant quite by chance and did not disappoint (having recently dined at some high end Sydney Italian eateries). The owners are very welcoming, enthusiastic and provide great service. The food is simple and rustic, but so tasty. The pizza was outstanding. Coffee was superb too. The bill for a large pizza, pasta dish, a large salad and 2 coffees came to just $40. It's a pity we were only passing through - would love to visit again.

“Fresh and real”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012 via mobile

Have just had our second visit. Our first was not long after opening and we had a fantastic meal. We wondered if it was just beginners luck but to our great relief this is not the case!! For entree we had buffalo bocconcini with fresh tomato, drizzled with olive oil and scatterings of cracked pepper and fresh torn basil. Which was simple and stunning!! The mains of pizza and pasta was icing on the cake!!
Dessert consisted of mini gelati cones for the kids ( PERFECT!!) and rich Italian chocolate cake and coffee for the adults, a lively way to finish a beautiful meal set in a wonderful atmosphere. Thank you, we will definitely be back again.

“A must”

Fantastic food, service, value and ambience. Coffee and wine was also exceptional. Would put a lot of Melbourne restaurants to shame.

If you a passing through Burra do not miss it.

“Unexpected gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Stopped in Burra on our way to the Flinders Ranges and had dinner at The Black Sheep. We were really impressed by the quality of the food. We went on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was full. Great atmosphere. Loved that they played some old blues and 70s music on vinyl. Our waitress had to keep changing the records. Highly recommended. Great for families.
