“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013 via mobile

Stayed in the Burra Paxton Cottages for one night in a 2 bedroom cottage. Very comfortable, basic accommodation and well priced. Could happily have stayed for another night curled up in front of the fire with a good book! Checkout is at 10am and best to keep to that as we were told if we wanted to leave anything in rooms after that time whilst having a wander around the town that there would be a charge of $40/hour from that time onwards. Packed up the car at that point! I have not been to Burra for years and there are some very nice and interesting antique shops and restaurants along the Main Street. I would definitely recommend staying here and visiting this old copper mining town.

I won this on a travel auction. I had no idea what to expect, but to be honest, I expected it to be out in the middle of nowhere - I was pleasantly surprised to find it in the heart of Burra. It was clean, large (in comparison to similar accommodation) and quaint. Our particular cottage slept 5. The staff were very friendly and accommodating (even allowing us to stay in the school holidays AND still get the free night as per the auction deal which is very unusual to be so generous). The showers were hot, and the kitchen provided everything you need. The only drawback was that there was no television - it didn't bother us in the slightest, but I'm sure there would be some people who would find this off-putting. I would definitely recommend this if you like rustic, budget accommodation.

We have a great time from the moment we stayed there. The lady at reception was so welcoming and even remembered us in the street the next day.
The rooms were very cute and a great big shower. It was our last day of holidays and booked at the place last minute not even known what the place looked like and were very pleased. the only thing they could do it have was air condioning not just a ceiling fan in the living area
deffinately recommened this place.

These stone cottages are very clean and great value for money. Built for Cornish copper mining familes in the 1800's, the cottages have their own kitchen where you are able to do your own cooking and only walking distance to the town if you wish to eat out. There is no T.V. in the cottage, so taking reading material! This is not 5 star but worth what you pay.

For $110 per night, all up these cottages are probably good value. They are clean, spacious and generally have character. It is not 5 star luxury but the price acknowledges that.

To sum up they are certainly good value for a family that do not want to pay near $200 per night.

I should add that their location is fantastic. Very close to the main centre of Burra.

The cottage was well appointed but when we lit the fires they smoked out two cottages we could not breath and our eyes were stinging when we notified the office they came down and said they have had this before just open the door. It was a freezing night and the door opened onto the main road.
The electric blanket was not working but they changed that and the power boards were all loose.

Room Tip: Do not choose the cottages with capped chimmny.
