“Very Good Pub Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

Better than the usual "pub grub" , large servings, friendly service and very good wines by the glass. Added to the fact that we could walk to this hotel from our B&B, made this reasonably priced restaurant well worth the visit.

“A Great Foodie Pub!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

We went to the Rising Sun because we had met a girl who was working in one of the wineries at the cellar door and she told us she also worked there. I'm so glad we went. It was a great traditional Australian pub with all the original features and the food was great. It was very busy for a place in a tiny settlement on a week night. It just shows you that people will search out great food wherever it is. The service was excellent and the wine list extensive. I would recommend this pub to anyone.

“So Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

Really friendly , helpful staff, life savers when we had problems accessing our nearby accommadation, nothing was too much trouble despite the fact they had no connection with the B&B. Also really good food& a great wine list & lots by the glass. Will stay there when next in the Clare

“Another SA Country Pub Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

Its not always easy to find a great pub in rural SA -but this is one.

We hunt it down following a recommendation whilst travelling for work.

Its very relaxed in the small front dining room, but the menu is very tempting. The boss heads for fish and chips, the colleague for a burger and I order risotto. We order at the bar. Water comes for the table and a lovely bread. Some one in the Mid North / Barossa area is doing something great with the bread and we must track down who it is!

Food arrives promptly and every one is happy. The Fish and Burger serves are very generous and there is a dear little side salad with the fish and chips - I do so appreciate that. The risotto is tasty and well presented.

The pub is hugely attractive and the seats on the verandah must be great to watch the world go past from on a warmer day.

Being able to buy take away coffee from the Bar as we head out is a bonus for the trip ahead.

Definitely a keeper - look forward to returning.

“Low key but brilliant.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

One wet and cold winter day we decided to try this place that we had gone past so often on the away to Clare. Totally worth it, select from bar menu or more up market modern Australian. Vegitarian and gluten free eaters get plenty of choice. Wine list is as expected great, both by the glass or bottle. Also a decent range of beefs on tap or bottle.

Service was friendly, professional and non invasive. Can be a bit busey on Sunday afternoon so pays to book ahead or simply enjoy a drink at the bar while the early crowd finish.
