“Great Accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

We were originally booked into Como Apartments (after enquiring if they had under cover parking) when we arrived, we found they only had limited u/c parking, which was not our understanding, as we were on motorbikes, this was essential. The Manager didn't hesitate to refund & redirected us to another place (Sail Inn), however they could not accommodate us for the number of days we wanted, so they phoned Driftwood & enquired on our behalf, when we arrived, both Clive & Merrilyn came out to greet us, gave us a choice of units & were extremely accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. We most definitely would stay again

We stayed at Driftwood Holiday units and had read the reviews prior to booking (with mixed feelings as we work in the hospitality industry). Upon arrival, the process at reception was as per any other accommodation provider - sign in and pay. The onsite managers were friendly, our questions were answered. They let us get on and enjoy our stay without interfering with us (much to our satisfaction). We understand that they manage the place and without the co-operation of the unit owners, are unable to carry out major expenditure however the unit was clean. You could not fault the cleanliness of the pool, bbq area and the grounds in general. The location is ideal - quiet end of town and beach front....what more could you ask for!! You can actually walk along the beach front into Yeppoon. We would definitely return as our stay and unit were most enjoyable.

Room Tip: Give it a go - you will be pleasantly surprised (take a moment to consider what a caretaker has to p...

We had a 4 bed-unit. The double bed is in a seperate bedroom, 2 beds are in the main living / kitchen area. Reception was helpful and friendly, the rooms clean, appliances and wifi worked.

I agree with the other reviewer - the signs saying "only sleep in the bed you've paid for" are irritating.

Also: the website says the motel is "absolute beach front", which is really misleading. What is true is that there is no road between the motel and the beach, so you can walk through the garden and the dunes onto the beach, but the shore is at least 100m away, and a lot further when the tide is out :). In practice, that means that you can neither see nor hear the sea from most rooms.

What does make the location special is the beach itself: vast and almost deserted. Very beautiful.

Room Tip: if you want to see the sea from your room, make sure you ask for it. but as I understand it, those u...

Managers of this property are very rude and need to do a course in customer service. The apartments are very dated and really need a good refurbishment. There was a lot of safety issues here from the bathroom to the balcony, lucky we were all adults and could cope with the all the safety issues , and not frail old people and or young children. It was very overprice and we could have got better accommodation elsewhere and treated with a lot more respect from the managers of this property.

Room Tip: Don't bother.

Operators unfriendly, hostile, rude. Rooms overpriced. Signs everywhere - hope you can read. e.g. only sleep in the bed you have paid for. (If there is a spare bed in your room, don't you dare lay on it). Demanded all monies up front. Any cancellations whenever (e.g. two months in advance) you will lose your money, not worth the risk. Operators have a really bad attitude.

This property is located nicely on the beach and is great for families with plenty of room for kids to play.

Rooms- Dated and I think overpriced at $140, but have TV, stove and microwave. Personally I don't think rooms are cleaned to my liking and surely its not too hard to get old paint splatter off the bathroom floor or repaint for that matter.

Pool is clean, barbecues are ok.

Service - Where do I start, Office hours are 9-5 Mon to Fri and 9-3 Sat and Sun and closed public holidays, if the office is unattended there is a sign that says press bell once (which you don't hear ringing I might add), so don't dare press it twice the owner will have words with you about it.
So my suggestion is either the owners start occupying the front office like real motel owners and don't be so pathetic about it, society doesn't revolve around you you know, I can see why your only 3 stars. My other suggestion is sell and move on and leave it to people who care about customer service, what "motel" closes on a public holiday ?

To travellers by all means stay at this property but I'd look at other places and keep this as a last resort.

My boyfriend and I stopped in at Yeppon during the festive season for a quiet night during our travels. We were most impressed to not only find a peaceful town, seemingly untouched since the 80's, but the most value for money accomodation at the Driftwood Motel. The location was as close as you could be to the ocean, with the added bonus of a pool. Our room was clean, spacious and included everything we needed from a self contained unit. Checkout was made easy also for the early morning departure. This is the best kept secret untouched hideaway for those who enjoy long walks on a beach right at your back door.
