Back visiting family and decided to bring myself to Redcliffe to check out what's happening. Sadly lots of empty shops but I do feel this area will be pumping in the near future. Sure the cafe's / restaurants fill up on week-ends but on a week day it's quite barren.
Chose 'The Jetty' to have some breakfast (it was the Merlo coffee sign that drew me in). Merlo is one of my favorites and I was hoping that the barista knew his stuff ' he did' thank goodness. One of the owners told me that all of the cakes, muffins are made in-house. Great as these days a lot of cafe's tend to bring in mass produced factory products.
I chose the scrambled eggs with basil, shaved parmesan and cherry tomatoes. Great flavor. My one complaint (or maybe two) would be that the toasted sourdough bread (one slice) was quite burnt and soggy. They had piled the eggs on top of the toasted bread. Such a shame, even though they charge an additional $2.50 for an extra slice (which I ordered later) surely the chef could have dumped the burnt slice and replaced it. It's the little things like this that can dampen !! an otherwise enjoyable foodie experience.
I did think of asking if the burnt toast could be replaced but I let it go. The owners are very nice and the coffee is great so this made up for the kitchen's lack of attention.
