“On a downhill slide”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

We first went to the Grand View hotel about 4 years ago and were very impressed with the friendly and welcoming attitude of the owners and their staff. The food was better than average pub food and wines reasonably priced as was the accommodation, (even though it was in need of renovation back then) and it included Breakfast.
On a recent visit quite another story, the accommodation (now NOT including breakfast) is so overpriced for an extremely run down room, there is historic and then there is old, tired, unclean and badly maintained, meal service was terribly slow on a not very busy evening, the food over priced and not very good and the staff had a very unwelcoming don't care attitude from the management down. Trying to get their attention was frustrating, The meals being served on plastic plates did little to enhance the overall experience. We thought they must have had a change of ownership, but it is still the same owners. Cannot believe how far they have let their standards drop. The history, location and views are still great but that is about all it has going for it. I would suggest just going there and having a drink in the gardens, to see the view and hopefully spot a koala or a possum, but I would highly recommend staying and dining elsewhere.

My family and I had lunch at this hotel on a warm sunny afternoon. The garden atmosphere lends itself to a relaxing afternoon with both uncovered and covered outdoor seating arrangements, which can be (and should be) booked in advance. The hotel restaurant is very popular and regularly provides free live music on the weekend. The food is excellent, plentiful, well prepared and presented and of good quality. The garden area provides a small sand covered children's play area and regularly on Sundays a small 'animal farm' attends which allows the young (and old) to see and pat the various farm animals. The hotel staff are courteous, friendly and accommodating. All in all it was a perfect place to have a quiet relaxing lunch with the family.

The Grand View Hotel was near where we needed to stay for a wedding. It was convenient. The place itself was nice enough downstairs, but the hotel was not. I have never paid so much for so little in a hotel. The hotel is certainly old, as per the advertisements, but it should emphasize worn and poorly maintained as well. The room had dead moths in it, the bathroom windows had the varathane cracking and rolled up in the humidity, and the floor was so sloped that you noticed it when lying in bed. The brick door-jamb in the bathroom was not charming. I was unimpressed with the dog-eared, 10 year-old magazines that were in the room. This just seems a basic lack of attention to detail. The staff stayed back well after the bar downstairs closed and were noisy, which made matters worse. Admittedly, they were friendly in the morning when we asked for a refund of the second night's deposit.

My partner and i went to this Hotel sunday 13th Jan. We had a table in the Garden area for lunch and it was just magical. Lunch was wonderful. We had the banquet and it was perfect for a very hot day.
I have to say that the staff were fantastic and proffesional.
This place is the perfect location for a lovely meal especially with the backdrop being nrth Stadbroke Island.

I will be back soon to enjoy a cocktail at the bar in the main resturant area which is very relaxing.

P.S I give full credit to everyone there that was working that week-end as it was very very hot and yet all staff bent over backwards for all the patrons to make sure they enjoyed thier day.

The Grand View Hotel .. accommodation-wise .. is disgusting and VERY overpriced. We paid $150.00 p/n for room only:- No air-conditioning; internal room; no TV; very hot & stuffy; very soft double bed; no tissues; no hairdryer; NO BREAKFAST; .. It was 1 of 2 rooms, the other of which was $135 p/n but ours did have a basic bathroom. The toilet did not even flush properly. Being a Friday night, it was noisy. We had lunch with 3 friends .. good but overpriced. The waitress had to be TOLD NOT to clear ANY plates until we had all finished. BASIC ETIQUETTE. Dinner was overpriced at $27 for 1 pork chop. However .. good chef [wonderful apple sauce & red wine jus]. Service very good .. young, dedicated staff who worked very hard & cheerfully. Mr. Brock should be ashamed of charging so much for vastly inferior accommodation. NO BREAKFAST, as we get at any Aussie pub [continental is usual & fine] is unforgiveable. A huge rip off!!!!!
