“True heaven...almost!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2011

My wife & I stayed at 1770 Getaway one week in 2010 & one week in 2011. We'll be back again some time. How can you beat a lush tropical retreat truly 'away from it all', yet close enough for to enjoy nearby attractions such as the reef (Lady Musgrave Island). The resort will even arrange a 10% discount for your island day trip. On hot, lazy days simply enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool. End the day with a great home made meal at the cafe. Family owned & operated, your hosts are warm & friendly - really they top off the already inviting atmosphere where one can truly relax & get away!

We booked this trip a day before online and arrived in the evening, every walk way was dimly lit and I was blown away by the hundreds of frogs that scampered away with every step we took. The owner and his wife welcomed us and we had a lovely meal at the restaurant on site. Our "room" was our own 1 bed room bungalow with 2 full baths, a full kitchen and a living room area. We did the reef tour in town and spent 2 nights here. One morning we walked down the path leading from the property to the beach to a post sunrise view of the cliffs and beaches. After our reef tour, we bought some food in town at a grocery store and cooked pasta in our bungalow and relaxed. This site is remote, a great place to stay to do the tour of the reef from town of 1770. The owner's were lovely and always helpful.

Great place to stay as a base for exploring the area, especially agnes water with access to southern barrier reef (lady musgrave and lady elliot islands) . Nearby Agnes Water is the most northern beach in Queensland where there is decent surf. 1770 is a small town, it takes its name from the landing of Captain Cook, and there's a small but interesting museum which is worth the time to visit.

The owners of the resort are fantastic, extremely friendly and helpful. We were stranded due to floods and they came to collect us in their 4x4. individal units with a comfy bed, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen/lounge area. there's a pool, with lovely gardens. a short walk takes to to a couple of secluded coves, a bit difficult to get to as you have to clamber down the hillside (no path). The resort has a small restaurant ,the food is good, especially thecoffee and homemade cakes.

We had initially hplanned and booked to spend only 3 nights there, and go on to another accommodation near the water for the rest of the 5 nights - but as soon as we arrived, we were soon lulled and captivated by the serenity and lushless of the surroundings, the friendliness of the hosts, who could not do enough for you, the peace and quiet tranquillity of the resort, the cleanliness of our little villa which had everything you needed.. It was fun driving and walking down the deserted beaches, where you could spend practically the whole day and not see a soul..

all we had to do was relax , enjoy, and switch off from the rest of the world by the pool.. Loved every minute of it..

We (a family of four) stayed here for three nights. Our purpose in being in the area was to see the Reef (Lady Musgrave Island). Having a kitchen and two bathrooms was nice, although a door on the master bath would have been appreciated. The restaurant was quite good, with fresh and vegetarian options. The owners are very nice. I fully recommend this place for a pleasant and relaxing time.

This is not our first trip to this delightful retreat and each visit gets better! As always, the accommodation was spotlessly clean, the hosts could not do enough for us and we thoroughly enjoyed spending time lounging by the pool or relaxing on our comfortable, private patio. We were delighted this year to find a new Coffee House with the most amazing food especially the delicious home made cakes/desserts. We travel to this magic resort because we have found it to be consistent especially the cleanliness!!! We have recommended it to many people in the last few years and they too have found a piece of paradise!

This accommdation was good value for money as it was a villa which had one bedroom with ensuite, a bathroom and a living/kitchen area that could be use for sleeping in also (for a decent price). There was a balcony/deck area and a washing machine in the villa. There was a swimming pool and BBQ area aswell (we never used either though). It was a little drive from the centre of town (not sure how long it would take to walk it).

In contrast to other reviewers, we did not view it as excellent; the balcony and bedroom lights didnt work. The blinds in the bedroom didnt shut fully and there were broken slats. The living room looked very stark as there was one central ceiling light and no lamps (not really relaxing), also no curtains/blinds on the kitchen window so anyone sleeping there could be woken early with sunshine. It seemed clean enough, though we unfortunately had a couple of cockroaches in our villa.

I would say the service was average.

I think that improved maintenance and a bit more attention to making this a relaxing place would cost very little but vastly improve the experience.

I put the recommendation as NO just because the system forces you to make a choice, I would say neutral if I could, but have to say that in all honesty I didnt want to spend time in the accommodation because of the cockroaches and the fact that I didnt find it relaxing (which is the point of a holiday).
