This motel is older but well-constructed -- the rooms are a decent size, the a/c worked well and there wasn't too much noise from the adjacent units. However, it appears that management is not concerned with upkeep. On the outside, there were many weeds, leaves and palm fronds that looked like they have been there forever. The front of the motel facing the road was especially in need of cleaning. In our room, the shower curtain was torn, and there were spider webs and bugs in the bathroom. Internet prices were sky-high -- $7.70 for one hour and $33 for 6 hours, if I recall correctly. And forget the restaurant unless you enjoy paying high prices for breaded, deep-fried nuggets of some tasteless stuff. Unfortunately, there were no other lodging choices nearby when we arrived. Hopefully, competition will someday arrive in town and spur management into refreshing their facilities.

You have said that management has no concern for upkeep of the property, yet in the next sentence, you state "The air con worked well". That comfort you experienced is entirely due to a great deal of concern by management for property upkeep. Our aircons are reliable. I know they are, because of the regular preventive maintainance we administer.
You have made an issue of weeds and palm fronds. Yes, we do have palms in the gardens. They sort of go with the Territory. They can be a slight problem though, for on a daily basis, sometimes several times a day, a clump of palms such as we have, in the various garden beds can drop quite a few fronds in the course of a day.
We have a number of grounds staff employed throughout the resort. Their duties consist, among other regular grounds tasks, of weed control and removal of fallen leaves and palm fronds. The collected material is usually removed on a daily basis from the property by grounds staff and taken to the local rubbish tip. The property is kept clean on a regular systematic basis, however, problems can occurr due to a large tree shedding its leaves for example, or palm fronds being placed below a cluster of palms by staff in the belief that collected palm fronds will not be a nuisance to anybody overnighting in a motel room. The practice is carried out to help stop non essential use of a motor vehicle driving to and from the rubbish tip. Fronds are allowed to build up in order to form mulch under the palm clumps. The large palm garden you mention at the front of the property is one such garden. Since the material has been found to be offensive, staff have now removed it all and in so doing have added to global warming by adding to CO2 levels due to non essential use of a motor vehicle driving several loads of compost material to the rubbish tip.
I apologise for your torn shower curtain. We have been unable to locate it. Our stocks of laundered shower curtains have been checked through in search of it., also it has not been hung again in any of the rooms. Sometimes curtain hooks can pull out during use, causing the curtain to droop, and can look for all the world like a torn curtain. Perhaps this was such an occasion?
You point out spider web in the bathroom. It certainly should not have been there.
You say that bugs were running around on the bathroom floor. I do not deny them being on the floor, but I can categorically state that they were not there immediately prior to you occupying the room. Sometimes flying insects can enter a room at night after being attracted to a light within the bathroom. Bathroom lights are often left on all night by guests. Insects can find the smallest gap to gain access to a light. The rooms are protected by insect screens on bathroom windows, and on the sliding doors opening onto the balcony. The screen doors can be left open, even for a short time, and the insects will enter, especially if flying termites are swarming as they have done several times over the past month or more. We have even fitted draught excluders beneath the front entry doors to make access for insects more difficult. Even with all the precautions in place, the simple act of walking in and out of the room, to and from your car parked outside the room, can allow insect access. I am afraid it is an environmental phenominum, and can be a part of the Top End experience. We are all powerless to do more than ensure lights are turned off, and during the swarm, which can last all night, sometimes more than one night, be super carefull going in and out of your lit room at night. Had you spoken to us of your problem, we could have suggested turning off the room light at night when going in and out through the door. In this area, we all have to live with that one! When environmental conditions are right for them, the termites will swarm in the millions.
You have a concern about wireless internet costs. The service is made available to our property by NET4.com, that company having provided and installed the equipment and it is NET4.com who owns and operates the wireless internet. Prior to NET4.com making wireless internet available, we had no access to such a facility. NET4.com staff have spent time at this property over a number of interstate visits, installing and fine tuning their system. I guess they have invested considerable funds in design, equipment, operating costs and personnel. It would be reasonable to expect NET4.com to charge money for people wishing to access their system. User pays is a reasonable situation. Any money paid to NET4.com for wireless internet usage by you is a contract between you and them, they being your service provider, to whom I understand you paid via your credit card , on line.
You have made a statement "Forget the restaurant unless you enjoy paying high prices for breaded, deep fried nuggets of some tasteless stuff".
My friend, you did not use the restaurant! You utilised our public bar. If you selected nuggets from a menu, you were at the public bar. There is a big range of meals on the public bar menu. You had the choice of what you ordered. For example you could have ordered a scotch fillet steak if you wished, with a choice of vegetables, sauces or perhaps with a range of salads, or a nice big T-bone steak, etc. However, you chose from the menu, food which cost the same as a cup of fried potatoe chips, Instead of a proper meal, you chose deep fried chicken nuggets at a cost of $3.50 per serving.
I brought our French chef Quentin in to my office to allow him to read your rather scathing words regarding the food you ordered in our public bar.
After reading your defamatory statement, he stated "On ne peut pas avoir le beurre, et l'argent du beurre! which he tells me, translates into "You cannot have the butter, and the money of the butter!
I think his words adequately sum up your critique. You obviously did not enjoy your stay, and for that I am sorry. It would seem to me that you spent a lot of time trying to find fault, instead of enjoying Batchelor Resort. You could just as easily have chosen to enjoy it. It costs you the same amount of money either way.
If you come this way again, look me up and I'll buy you a beer!
