“Not too great after all!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2009

Well, all I can say is, how disappointing. We stayed here just for one night and was greeted by the male owner of the B&B who was either in a very bad mood or extremely tired. There were no nibbles and drinks on arrival. Just grunted at that is where the sherry is etc. No nibbles to be seen or offered at all. Champagne was finally offered at 8 pm. Our room had massive cracks in it and was very dusty. The bathroom was clean.

By the morning the owners still weren't very friendly. Once we were paying and I was asking questions, is when they finally began to have a friendly conversation with us.

The views are amazing and breakfast is good but the owners need to learn to be more friendly up front with their guests especially when the guests are paying $200 a night.

Reviews of the Crown & Anchor rate it highly, and rightly so! On arrival (at one of the oldest buildings in the town), we were welcomed with sparkling wine and cheese and biscuits, all enjoyed sitting in the late afternoon sun on the outside terrace overlooking twofold bay. Heaven.

The rooms are all maintained in period style, and we were lucky enough to get a peek of them all! It was impossible to choose which was the nicest, as they all had their own unique character.
We were very pleased with our "Window room", complete with four poster bed.

The house itself has many interesting historical books and photographs, and a telescope through which you might might be lucky enough to spot dolphins or whales out in the bay!

Breakfast was a lavish spread with pleny of choice - I just wish I had a larger stomach!

Wow after a long but gorgeous drive from the Lakes National Park the champagne on arrival with nibbles was very very welcome.

Room was simply historically antique but beautifully done and we chose the room with a bath in the bedroom. Despite dire water crisis situation I am afraid I had two baths - so very romantic!

Great restaurant just down by the steps to the harbour with wonderful views over the harbour.

Shame it wasn't whale watching season as views over the two fold bay were simply brilliant

Great healthy brekky choices and the drive north the next day had some of the best beaches I have ever seen.

Stay there you'll love it.
