Bedroom was extremely basic and very old fashioned. Maid made our beds only once and never changed our sheets. She was great at changing our towels frequently but our floors were never swept nor was any surfaces dusted! Beds were very creaky (every time I turned at night I woke myself up!) and were a step up from a camp bed with thin matresses, I took 2 painkillers every night to help ease the back pain that I woke with every morning. We knew there was no air con but when we asked at reception if we could hire a fan etc, we were told no, so had to suffer intolerable heat (like a greenhouse) in the small room for a week. Only for the fact we were there a week I would have paid to stay somewhere else and actually did go to an internet cafe to see about booking elsewhere!
The bathroom was crawling in ants, they were on the toilet, all over the towels, up the walls, in the sink - EVERYWHERE and we were on the 4th floor!
Due to sleepless nights due to heat and noise, we never made it to breakfast at all as we were so exhausted and usually slept until late morning.
However, in the evening, the food was very very basic and very tasteless. 5 items at salad bar eg. lettuce, carrot, tomato, sweetcorn and some sort of pasta/meat mayonaisse, a something soup sat in a big uncovered and cold, main meal was 5 items, usually a pasta with tomato sauce, a fish, some sort of meat, a veg and potato (usually packet type potato), dessert section was usually empty as people took up to 3 or 4 at a time and only about 10 were brought out at a time so if you weren't fast enough you missed out, though there seemed to be plenty of fresh fruit or tinned fruit in bowls, which again went very quickly! The chap who dished out the food spoke no english so it was difficult for myself as a vegetarian to find out what certain things contained and in the case of my son he took calamari thinking it was onion rings.
There was one waiter to serve drinks and on a couple of occasions we had finished our meal before we were offered a this service so we started to bring our own instead. (€2.20 for bottle of water that cost 50cents elsewhere!)
The pool area was very poor and the actual pool itself had alot of black mould, plus alot of tiles were falling off the sides and bottom, and my son cut his foot on the floor where the tiles were off. Plus it was quite a big drop from the side of the pool to the actual water.
The staff were not very friendly to my son and I personally, they seemed to have alot of returning customers who were more of a priority and non of which were English.
Night times were dreadful! Because of the heat, we had to sleep with our doors open, but shuttered doors shut to let in air which then meant we got alot of noise from other guests that kept us awake. Usually at 3am we were woke by music, chatting, shouting and children crying, and even snoring!!
There was about a 5/10 minute walk into town and about 10/15minutes to the beach, the walk was downhill into town but slightly up hill back to the hotel and through alot of narrow windy streets that had traffic going up and down them!
There was also a very loud groaning noise that was heard approx 2/4 times every minute or so and I finally worked out that it was the noise of the lift engine! I thought the building had irritable bowel syndrome as it was such a loud groan!
All in all I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially anyone with children! My son cried for the first 3 days because the hotel was so bad and we holiday usually 3 times a year :(
