“Great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

The girl on reception bent over backwards to offer help and suggestions. The location was great, the room enormous (junior suite) and the breakfasts delicious. Once you find the place parking was really easy. A computer is provided for guests as well as a gym and reading room. We felt very pampered.

Room Tip: We had a great room on the second floor.

We selected this hotel for its central location, sea view and ease of parking and all met our expectations beautifully. Our room, overlooking the ocean and former fish-market-turned-Christmas-market, was lovely, quiet, clean, and spacious, as was the bathroom, though the water was non-potable. Lighting in the room was comfortably bright, including bedside lamps. The room included an eating area with cooking/washing facilities, table and chairs, coffee, refrigeration, and an automatic scent sprayer that was a bit strong. Initially, we took out its batteries, but learned that the natural aroma of the seaside room was slightly moldy, so we put the batteries in when we left the room. The receptionists were gracious and knowledgeable and helped us be in the right place at the right time for the Immaculate Conception parade as well as providing excellent dinner recommendations. Sleeping was delightful in very comfortable bed although huge storm our last night was a bit disconcerting. We expected the plastic-enclosed breakfast patio to have been blown off the roof, but the Trapanese must be used to this, and all was well. The breakfast buffet was the most full and varied of our 3-week trip. A side trip to Nubia for the salt flats, museum, restaurant (Salina Calcasi), and sighting of flamingoes in the wild was a special treat. Erice, too, is always lovely for a visit, though we find it a bit quiet in December.

Room Tip: Room 306 was quiet, spacious, has a kitchen area, and a lovely view.

Following Trip Advisor recommendations regarding Erice, we avoided staying in Erice and opted for this hotel. Not so easy to find due to a lack of signs (the fishmarket is really just a half moon shaped arcade and not so obvious), even with a satnav. Parking on the road, if you can find some. Superior Room very comfortable, staff very kind and friendly. Breakfast fine but breakfast room too small - got crowded on a Monday morning even though there were few guests in the hotel. We did a whirlwind tour of Sicily - in retrospect, Erice and Trapani could easily be left out to spend more time in Siracusa (Ortigia) and Taormina and surroundings. The trip from Trapani to Siracusa via Selinunte (disappointing) was extremely time consuming and some of the towns extraordinarily unattractive (Agrigento must be avoided at all costs!) - it would have been much easier to drive there from Palermo directly. IF you intend on going to Erice, I would agree that it's a better idea to stay in Trapani. The drive up to Erice is a bit hairbendy, but overall very manageable.

Room Tip: higher floors would be preferable to see the sea.

The hotel is beautifully designed and tucked away in a very quiet spot of Trapani right on the water. The rooms are very well designed and the glass floor was amazing. Bathroom was very clean and the whole setting was very cosy! We will stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: There is no free parking near by. The rooms away from the street are quieter.

Stayed at the residence La Gancia for 2 nights. The location is amazing and the staff were very helpful. The breakfast was good and made better with the amazing views. The reconstruction from a Carmelite monastery to a hotel was good. A must visit place hopefully sometime in the future.

Definitely a good hotel. As other reviews have commented, the old building is interestingly restored and the rooms are very comfortable and quiet. On the edge of the sea and with the old town just behind it's perfectly positioned. Staff are very helpful and breakfast on the terrace was very good. Check out the pasticceria/gelateria next door - it's not listed anywhere but ice creams and mandorla are great!

We stayed at La gancia for 6 nights over the new year. The staff at this hotel are excellent - they cannot do enough for guests. It is spotless clean and very tastefully furnished and refurbished. The only down fall was the noise. the hotel is located at a Piazza and had we known that there would be a market on here until midnight each night during our stay we would have stayed else where. There was loud music played at full blast for 4 hours min each night. We could not sleep...this wasn't La Gancia's fault - the marketeers had received permission from the council...:) The staff assisted when they could. The location is otherwise excellent in the old town - we were in room 104 with a slight sea view and a view out to the piazza. The cleaning service is daily and is excellent. we did not eat at the hotel however there are numerous restaurants around the area quite cheaply priced. Overall La gancia is probably the best place to stay in trapani just now while the music is blaring from the markets at Piazza mercato del pesce. just up the street on the right is a great little restaurant with fab pizza called Amici Mei. Erice is stunning and well worth a visit. Things dont come to life until about 7.30pm.

Room Tip: I would imagine rooms higher than the first floor would have a better sea view....
