“enjoy the sea of tranquility”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

If you are looking for a place to relax, far from Adamas noisy town with breathtaking views of the sea and the sunset this is your place. It is located at the edge of Plaka village (so you need some wheels to move around the island, parking area is ~20m far from the studios) and is built on the rock facing west with no other buildings in front to block the view. The biggest advantage of Halara (apart of the view) is the nodal location: you are 5 mins walk from Plaka center (with restaurants, patisseries, bars, cafes and souvenir shops) and 5 mins walk from Tripiti center (restaurants, bars) which for me are the best 2 villages to roam when you are not swimming or exploring the island. The room furniture and bathroom are old but maintained to a very good extent and kept in a good condition. It is also cleaned on a daily basis. There is some kitchenware available (spoons, forks, knifes, plates etc) a refrigerator, filter coffee machine (you have to buy your coffee) and hot plates to cook (you have to ask the landlord to lend you a pan). There is no toaster for your bread. The balcony is shared but there's enough distance from one room to another so you can have some kind of privacy when you chat. The lady taking care the place (Popi) lives very close and is very kind and willing to help.. you can always call the owner as well. The prices were very reasonable compared to what you get and compared to other lodges in Milos or other islands.

Halara Studios are fairly spacious, have the advantage of being located on a ridge with excellent views and an enviable peace and tranquility, though they are only a few minutes walk from the center of the pretty Plaka. The owner is very kind. The room cleaning is done every other day but much summarily. The bathroom is the only truly negative side, as the only console this was broken and the shower floor was very small and uncomfortable. Given the position, they are recommended for those looking for peace but not to those who want to life from sea given the necessity of having to take a means of transport to get to any beach. Advisable, therefore, the rent of car or a motorcycle, but not to "Katris car rental" of Plaka if you do not want to deal with dishonest people trying to cheat you in any way.

We were meant to stay at Halara Studios in Plaka for 4 nights, but when we got there it was simply too far away from any action for our liking, so we only stayed for one. The views from the (shared) balcony were absolutely stunning - truly incredible. The room was OK - smelled a bit fusty and felt a little bit grungy. Stelios was v helpful on email before our arrival but nowhere to be seen on arrival - only a sweet old lady who didn't speak a word of English, and noone at all around after that. Stelios did arrange for Themis to pick us up from the harbour though, which was much appreciated and very necessary as we'd never have been able to get there otherwise. There were only a couple of tavernas in Plaka (that we could see) but we ate at a lovely little place down the road (5 mins walk) in Trypiti - down the little side street opposite the bus stop on the left - can't miss it. We were somewhat baffled by the fact that Plaka is the capital of Milos as it was so incredibly small and sleepy! Might suit some but it was too quiet and far away from the beach for us as we didn't have a car and it's simply too isolated to not have one. There is a bus which goes into Pollonia or Adamas a couple of times a day. And there are catecombs and a museum to see in the immediate area.

I stayed at Halara Studios for 4 nights at the very end of Sept. It has the most incredible views overlooking olive groves and agricultural land right down to the sea, and across the wide Adamas Bay to the hills beyond and also out to sea. The studio itself was well equipped, with fridge, sink and hot plate. There was also a coffee machine, The shower was excellent with lashings of hot water at anytime of day. On the edge of Plaka, with its delightful and typically Cycladic houses and little lanes/steps, there was no traffic (although the taxi, sent free by the owner to meet me at the port, was able to stop a few metres from the enrtrance to Halara). Plaka has lots of varied eating places within a few monutes' walk of Halara and there is a regular bus service to Adamas. The path to the Calatcombs below Tripiti and on to Klima starts right outside Halara's gate!
The most amazing thing about the studio apart from the superb view was the absolute silence - apart from the occassional rooster! Highly recommended.

We stayed at Halara Studios for 5 days end of June. Location was excellent. Very quiet area, however very close to the Milos capital, where lovely picturesque shops and restaurants are located.
View from the studios was amazing with nice balconies overlooking the sea (and an island which have not idea which one that was). Rooms are simple like all Greek islands rooms to let, but spacious. Tv, 2 twin beds, water heatins (you need to turn on the switch) and a small bathroom is all you need.
We booked it over the phone, finding th advert on the internet. The owner was lovely. She booked a taxi for us that drove us from the airport to the studios (she paid for the taxi), also every single day the cleaning lady was looking after the studios, clenaning them, maing the beds, etc. I would definetely stay there again. Prices are quite fair (although you will get cheper elsewhere)but with a fantastic view. We found the room at milos-island. You will definetely, though, need a little bike or a car to see the island.
