“An excellent boutique in Yangzhou”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

We stayed in this hotel during 2014 Lunar New Year, overall that was a great experience. Hotel located in the middle of a 2km long historical street, room was well equiped and most in room amenities were up to standard.
We went to Spa on the first night but realized spa was not open, front desk staff recommended in room foot massage but we have to pay cash... skill of that two masseuses were average, somewhat disappointed.
Breakfast was acceptable with local (80%) and international (20%) selections, but there were only big round tables in the breakfast room. Fresh made noodle soup was yummy.
Room got window to corridor but sound insulation was poor - you can hear everything happening in that corridor. Room was very hot and dry, we had to switch off the huge radiator on the wall, however that was good for a cold and wet weather.
Overall value for money.

Outstanding hotel all around. A historic compound that now offers wide variety of rooms, meeting spaces, great food and 7-star service. Cannot say enough about the hotel staff and the unique spotless series of rooms. Most all of the rooms have courtyards that are ideal for combining up with families and friends to share. The gardens across the narrow stone street from the hotel entrance is a real gem. Walk down the street for lots of shopping, coffee, and restaurant choices and then wind up at the grand canal next to the Marco Polo museum. Really cool unique place with friendly extremely attentive staff. Loved staying there and sorry it was only for two nights this time. Deceptively large property with interesting maze of walkways.

Room Tip: There are a very wide variety of room styles and features. The property is deceptively large with lo...

Hotel is located in the oldest neighborhood of Yangzhou that dates back to the 18-19th century. The property belonged to a Chinese general in Qing Dynasty. Full of original charms, everything is made of wood. We had a room with private living room and courtyard. The whole place also includes Chinese traditional gardens, ponds, little pavallions here and there. It's quite easy to get lost in there, so remember to grab the hotel map from the front desk! The downside though is the lack of Internet in rooms, and the hotel staffs are not the most helpful or friendly bunch. But all in all, a unique and pleasant experience!

We had to park our car a couple of blocks away, but the hotel staff picks you up in golf carts to take you to the hotel. There are lots of staff, mostly friendly young men with somewhat humorous English nametags. The renovation of this historic property is very well done, although keep in mind that if you are on the second floor you must go up a lot of stairs, which generate a bit of noise. The lobby, walkways, and garden are very attractive. The standard rooms are very clean and relatively plain, as is the small bathroom. There is internet in the lobby, but not in the rooms.

I stayed here for several nights on a business trip in late 2011. The property is in a historic area of Yangzhou, in a restored section of a Qing Dynasty home. The exterior appears to be faithful to the Qing Dynasty history, while room interiors are fully modernized and comfortable. Location is convenient to downtown historic area. Tea room was provided, as are beautiful gardens and lobby. Charming place!

Room Tip: The property is spread out; some rooms are a little difficult to find.

The taxi dropped us off at the entrance of Dong Guan Street where the hotel is on as it is a walking street. The street is a ancient cultural walking street with shops, food stalls and restaurants and doesnt permit cars. After short walk in awe at sight of what the old times would have looked on this street, you will see the grand entrance of Changle hotel. This is very similar to what wealthy people's residence would have looked like. The hotel is full of character and inside there are a few alleys and buildings which you can wonder around. The rooms are clean, cosy, full air-conditioned, with a good ensuite with all the toiletries supplied.

The staff are polite and well mannered. English is weak but you'll be able to manage. There is a restaurant in the hotel, however, we never tried it. If you go out onto Dong Guan street, you'll see lot of food stalls (that you should try!) and restaurants. There is one restaurant, with glass panels on the left of the hotel (other side of the street) and we had a good evening meal there. The menus have pictures of the dishes so that will help if you cannot read chinese.

The location is great too, on Dong Guan street, and very near the famous Ge Yuan (Ge Garden) - which is also on Dong Guan street. To get to the slender west lake, you'll be able to find a passing taxi at either ends of Dong Guan street which is just a short walk away.

On departing with our luggage, the hotel kindly took us to the main street in their golf carts and called a taxi for us to make our onward journey.

This hotel definitely made Yangzhou even better for us as it isn't the usual western style hotel and more importantly, it is clean and well kept.

Highly recommended with traditional feel all over.
