“Great Hotel - Noisy at the moment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2011

We stayed here with a few other families for 6 nights. The rooms were really nice, friendly staff, and a great locationj in centre of town & easy walk to the river.
Kids loved the pool.
the only downside, which is common in China was the cigarette smoke that pervades the airconditioning system, even in the non smoking rooms. thankfully the rooms have opening windows though.
At the moment there is a 24 hr construction site next door as a new train/metro station is being built. though they very sensibly had 2 packets of earplugs in each room for each night.
Good breakfast buffet, with a great rendition of a local favourite noodle soup "Mi Fen"

Although it is located in the middle of the city, there is lots of construction right outside (new subway system). They seem to be working around the clock so there is construction noise all through the night. They do provide ear plugs. I was on the 17th floor and you can hear the noise all night but it was not enough to bother me too much. If you are a light sleeper, it may bother you more. Once the construction is done, I can image this being an excellent location.
The room is nice. No wireless but free in room internet via cable.
The service, however, is terrible!! I called down and asked if I can order breakfast for the next morning in room. They told me they can't take the order because they may lose it when they change shifts !! Asked me to use the breakfast card that you hang on the door. Looked for a while and eventually found it hiding in the desk drawer. Filled it out, hung it outside. When the food didn't come the next day at the appointed time, opened the door and found the breakfast card still hanging on the door!!! Called down and try to make the order. Wanted decaf -- no decaf. Wanted skim milk -- no skim milk. Wanted shreadded wheats -- no shread wheats. Yet all are choices on the breakfast card!

No apologies, no offer for comp food. No nothing!!!

This is not the level of service I expect at a Crown Plaza.

The construction is understandable. Short term pain for long term gain. The poor service is inexcusable.

Stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Changsha for two nights during Easter.

The Hotel's location is perfect for tourists. It is located at Wuyi Square (it is a nice little park) in the city centre. The Square is surrounded by several hotels (with Crowne Plaza being the only international brand) and some grey and dull looking buildings. The River Xiang is less than 10 minutes' walk from the Hotel. Wuyi Avenue, one of the trunk roads in Changsha, is right in front of the Hotel. On the other side of the avenue there are several modern department stores and a typical Chinese pedestrian only shopping zone at Huang Xing Nan Lu. The keys sights in the city are less than 15 minutes' ride from the Hotel, whether by bus or taxi. To reach the Hotel from Huanghua International Airport, travellers can take the Airport Bus (it costs RMB16) to Changsha Station which is less than 10 minutes away from the Hotel by taxi. The taxi fare from the Hotel to the Airport direct is about RMB90.

The staff were polite and helpful but the Hotel was showing signs of age, in particular the exterior, the lifts and the room. Guests can easily hear the traffic at Wuyi Avenue in the room on 17th Floor, not to mention someone speaking loudly or knocking the door next room.

There was nothing special about the buffet breakfast at Spcies Cafe (there were not many choices of food so I did not spend too much time for breakfast). The Dynasty Chinese Restaurant offers Cantonese and Hunanese cuisine. It must be one of the better restaurants near Wuyi Square. I had a complimentary welcome drink at the Lobby Lounge (which is in fact located on the mezzaine). It is a quiet place to have a drink and chat but it was quite annoying to find other guests smoking.

When checking out the concierge told me that it would be difficult to get a taxi at around 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thanks for his effort an appointment was made for a taxi to pick me up when I left the Hotel at 5:00 p.m.

This Crowne Plaza was better than the one I stayed at in Foshan last Christmas.

We were told this was the BEST hotel in Changsha. While reasonably located, it has no grand driveway or lobby. The room is reasonably sized and the beds are firm. Breakfast buffet spread was abundant but with so many tourists haggling for their share of food (especially the Korean tourists who persistently nudged the quequers out of the way) and the lack of waiting staff to cope with the morning rush, it was a difficult environment to enjoy a peaceful morning meal. Perhaps what annoyed us most was that we were told that using bathroom amenities like shampoo, bath gel, tooth brush would attract additional charges to the room bill. Shocking, isn't it? Apparently the local council deemed the rule necessary to tighten hotel guests usage and limit waste (the wierdiest green policy I have ever come across!). We had to go to the nearest Watsons to buy our bathroom supplies.
No concierge, receptionist, bell-boy, waiters, waitress ever greeted us on our first and return visit within a week. Strange place - perhaps some early success has gone into their heads and they think they are the best. Don't believe it!

Although I paid 4.5-stars price, I received bad service in this property. The front-desk forgot to make a copy of my ID and called in the room to record the number. The only delight was a free upgrade to excecutive floor with free internet and beverage. The bed and shower was comfortable enough for a good night.

The swimming pool was dark and a little cold (27 degree-celsius but felt like 23). The floor was wet and filthy and piles of used towers in the men's locker room. It seems the management never uses the swimming center themselves so nobody cares to clean the facility. The bathroom had absolutely no shampoo/bath gel. It never happened in any other 4-stars and up hotels I had stayed before.

Morning breakfast buffet was chaotic. The hotel dinning area was packed with local/international businessmen for some conventions in the city. The waitress abosolutely had no idea what's going on inside the restaurant and asked me to share tables with strangers several times. They collected plates away from tables which were occupied and someone else may even take your seat if you left the table for a new plate.

Checking out was a hassle compared to any other hotel I have ever stayed. Some guests were arguing or just talking loudly with front desk. It took them forever to finish the billing. Nobody offered me any help until the big crowd left. The manager was no where to be seen and the lobby was like a wild jungle.

Overall, the employees at this hotel were rude and intrusive. They were doing your a big favor to offer you one room to stay in this busy season. This hotel was not up to 4-stars standard and IHC should train the employees immediately.

The hotel is located across from the shopping district of Changsha. The standard rooms are large and well maintained.
The breakfast buffet has both Chinese and Western food of good quality. The restaurant ambience is excellent.
We stayed there on our inbound and outbound tour of Zhangjiejia National Forest.
