Extremely well-maintained and spotlessly clean – gardeners and cleaners working all day long. Stunning pool, with new, stylish lounging furniture and a beautiful view over the surrounding Atlas. Huge rooms surrounded by rose gardens are tranquil and private, not to mention incredibly good value at 40euros per night. Food was good and reasonably priced with a fresh menu that changed daily (pretty impressive for a hotel that must have been only ¼ full). Good, well-priced Moroccan wine and beers (quite rare to find outside big city hotels) and plenty of space for drinking mint tea or an aperitif with friends or family. Utterly calm and relaxing and highly recommended. Would also recommend the hotel L'Oliveraie de Marigha, 5-10 mins walk down the road, turn right out of the hotel, for dinner one night if you fancy a bit of a change – lovely food in an equally beautiful setting.
Should also mention that the hamman and massage we took were excellent and well worth the money. Spa facilities are very good and a perfect compliment to relaxing times spent in the mountains.
Only criticism would be the lack of effort made by the man on reception to help us organise any activities from the hotel. We were keen to organise the rental of bikes – not possible. So we asked about pony or donkey trekking – yes, it was available but he didn’t have the price list to hand and would come and find us by the pool. He never did. So we requested a taxi to take us to Tinmel Mosque, about a 30-45min drive away and a key sight to see in the region. The guy called one taxi driver from the village and quoted us 80euros, didn’t bother negotiating and shrugged when we said this was far too overpriced. Not the best service by any means and I would certainly expect more from a hotel that is in the middle of nowhere and completely inaccessible (it is not at all in the town of Ouirgane, but over an hour down the road on foot). Shame because the service in the restaurant, bar etc. was perfect – the guy on reception should take some lessons in customer service. We also found the lift back to Marrakesh (1hr) provided by the hotel pretty steep (550Dhs, 50euros) compared to the private taxi we took there (330Dhs, 30 euros) – a bit mean after we had stayed and eaten at the hotel for 3 nights.
