5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2011

just returned from a weeks stay and was pleasantly surprised after reading some previous reviews.
checkin- problemless and quick. any other time we needed somebody at the front desk we were attended to immidiately.
rooms- large rustic styled rooms that are comfy but basic so bring a hairdryer and a reading light because these rooms are dark to shield of the sun.
swimmingpool- we really enjoyed the pool surrounded by mountainviews. feels private because this is not a busy hotel plus a lot of guest are away during parts of the day to go trekking or visiting other places.
food- rustic simple food mostly tasty as well with enough variety. served a bit later for ramadan but this suited us better anyway , every night a candlellit dinner very romantic!
breakfast was standard morrocan- pancake, cake, breads, butter ,jam, honey, coffee, tea and orangejuice.
drinks- o.k. wine average beers ,the usual fizzy drinks and some spirits.
service- no complaints at all ,waiterservice was fine, rooms were kept clean, pool was kept clean. grounds were attented too.
location- great location with lovely views of the mountains just outside the hotel are a few local shops and restaurants. a good base to go trekking from.

Dirty unkept pool, unfriendly staff, rubbish food, dirty rooms, etc, etc etc. This hotel is a fine, well-kept small hotel situated ideally in the mountains. OK, the pool is not perfect, but it is NOT dirty or unkept. We stayed 7 nights and twice the pool-boys added chlorine and everyday cleaned the pool. The breakfast is not perfect but you pays for what you get - £35 per night for the room with dinner and breakfast and then complain that it is bread and jam, come on!!! Funny "damp smell" in the room - that will be the furniture made out of sandalwood. Flies in the pool - it is in a functioning olive grove after all.

Anyways, enough of disabusing the previous reviewers.

RECEPTION - our room was ready when we arrived and when we wanted to transfer to Marrakech they suggested their hotel based there and transfered free of charge. Couldn't have better service.

FOOD - breakfast was the same every day but remember what you paid. Coffee was variable though depending, I guess, on who made it, sometimes is was horrible. One day it was self-service which was not so good. Evening meal was always good, tagine every day (always varied) with one other option. You wouldn't want to be a veggie though as it would probably be the same every day. Large portions of tasty grub.

DRINK - muslim country during ramadan and they had all wines on the list (almost) every day. The cheap ones were horrible but several were drinkable and one or two were actually quite good. Moroccan beer is garbage, steer clear, including the premier Casablanca which is, at best, average.

WAITING STAFF - basically there were two waiters, one young, one middle aged. The young guy was perfect but the older guy was your typical obsequious arab-type, full of false bonhomie and stupid comments, irritating at best, most usually plain annoying. They were always available when required though and ;provided at least adequate service.

ROOM - clean and servicable, bed african comfortable, bathroom functional. AC worked prefectly and made the room chilled.

WILDLIFE - dogs and cats everywhere, this was a problem, as several were quite mangy.

VALUE FOR MONEY - this couldn't be higher, we paid approximately £35 per night for the 8 nights we stayed. Everything was completely satisfactory and some things were truly excellent, like the location, the landscaping and the food and wine selection.

Room Tip: Try and speak to the staff instead of assuming they will immediately know what you want

We came to Ouirgane to unwind after work and couldn't get to stay where we wanted because of a local marriage and everything else was booked. You come to Ouirgane for the views - an intensive olive tree planting meant we could see nothing from our terraces. From the moment we arrived, where the rather disinterested front desk couldn't find our booking and the reception stank of terrible fake room freshner, things went down hill. We had 'junior suites' with small not very private terraces (the hotel staff take a short cut across the garden right in front of them and the neighbours are pretty close). Once you closed the door to the room and shuttered the tiny window, you were in complete darkness. A black box. Cheap beds, with a detached head board, standard generic Moroccan furnishings were very uninspiring, the bathroom had a nasty little bar of soap and nothing else. No drinking water in the room. Off to the swimming pool - a huge affair set in an enormous and very impersonal terrace, but that was so unclean as to be a health hazard. Dinner, which was predominantly European, was not at all bad, unlike breakfast which was disgusting. Stale bread, industrial jams, weak coffee. We couldn't wait to leave.

We arrived at the so called 'Boutique and Stylish' Ksar Shama at midday 29th May 2011.
our Junior Suite was a joke it had a flying ants nest, smelt damp and the bath tub was a disgrace. The pool was mouldy with thick green algae on all the tiles. I didn't dare dip further than my ankles. The reception staff were hopeless and most unwelcoming. There were locals (male) hanging around doing nothing which we found very uncomfortable. I asked for the manager who I must say was very accommodating and showed me a further 3 rooms. I chose the Ksar Shama suite which according to the hotel was the most desired room!?! (hmmm). We had booked 3 nights here and we stayed just one. The food was terrible and the included breakfast consisted of orange cordial rather than fresh orange juice, stale cold toast and artificial jams - needless to say we skipped breakfast.
Hip Morocco put me in touch with Ksar Shama....they are clearly not checking out the venues they recommend and claim to be 'BOUTIQUE' hotels/venues.
If you want a nice relaxing holiday with yummy food and comfy clean accommodation..then AVOID - KSAR SHAMA!

A group of us stayed at Ksar Shama for 4 nights. The hotel and grounds are delighful with masses of flowers everywhere. The staff were extremely helpful arranging guides and transport and dealing efficiently with any small problems.
Breakfast and dinner were very good and it was a pleasure to eat out by the pool.

It's such a shame. It's very beautiful setting and styling but the everything needed work doing to it. The pool was very dirty and the room had water dripping down the wall. we walked around the spa which included a hammam going mouldy - not really what you want to steam in! The food was fairly authentic, but lazy and lacked anything special, there was a mosquito in my dinner, breakfast was awful, stale bread n no coffee. We checked out after one night, having booked 4, we walked down the road to a lovely place instead. It really could be an amazing place and I felt awful saying this wasn't good enough but for our honeymoon it was very disappointing.
