We got carryout because we were passing through Rocky Mount and wanted to keep moving. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with onion rings while my mother ordered a plain Highway burger with fries as well as an additional side of fried okra. Her burger was juicy and tasty, but her fries were tepid and not crunchy. The fried okra were piping hot but bland and the small portion size was disappointing considering the $2 price. My grilled chix sammie looked fabulous with beautiful grill marks on both sides of a substantial piece of chix under a piece of the most beautiful green leaf lettuce and the thickest tomato slice, but when I actually tasted the sammie, the chix was dry, tough, and bland. The onion rings were piping hot and good. The customer service was not good on a carryout order, which is really bad. If we ever stop in Rocky Mount again, it is unlikely we will be stopping at the Highway Diner again.
