If you don't mind spending $300.00 for a room and 2 elaborate meals, this is a nice place to do it. Tapoco is in a deep forest along a lovely mountain stream. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the food is great! The rooms are cool, comfortable and clean. There is no TV, Wi-Fi or cell phone coverage but there are books and games and outdoor activities such as shuffleboard, tennis, hiking and an outdoor bonfire but the gnats were bad while we were there in August. The "Tail of the Dragon" and Fontana Lake are fairly closeby.
But I was and still am very unhappy about the price and especially the 50% increase of the price from when I registered. Being a "Motel 6" type person, I gritted my teeth to agree to register almost a year in advance for a room and two compulsary meals for $200.00. I guess the price increased during the year but I was not notified. When we arrived the bill was more than $300.00! $124.00 was listed for compulsary "incidentals" and $56.56 was listed as tax and "services" (with no break-down) for a total of $305.56 which was more than $100.00 more than I had expected to pay. I mentioned it, but no adjustment was made. I will never stay there again because I don't ever again want to pay $300.00. for a room and two meals, but If you do, I could recommend Tapoco Lodge. Just be sure you have IN WRITING the total amount you will have to pay including compulsory "incidentals" and "services" or else you may be in for a shock when you see the bill.
