We were surprised to see one of the old roadside motels still approved by AAA, and decided to spend the night there, rather than one of the chains. It's probably from the mid '50s, but in much better shape than most of the other independents in this area. For a king bed with two people, our rate was $38 + tax (after a small AAA discount).
The rooms were large and clean, although one of the chairs had the obligatory stain on the seat. There was a pretty big TV, a fridge, and a microwave in the room. The bathroom was nice and clean, and had the original tile walls and tub. The water was warm enough to shower, but should have been hotter. The bed was quite comfortable, and the motel was quiet at night. There's a little donut and coffee breakfast in the lobby, and the clerk not only refunded my quarter from the broken ice machine (which should be fixed by now), but gave me the ice from his freezer.
Be warned that the motel is quite a ways from 95, and there are several turns to make. They've put up pretty good signs, and once you are there, you're very close to downtown area dining. It's definitely worth a few minutes drive to save a bunch of money.
