“POOR MANAGEMENT”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

Words of advise: NEVER eat at this Mayflower!!! The baby shrimp, baby flounder, and fries are very greasy and taste like they've been cooked in old cooking oil, and the baked potatoe, tasteless... Then on top of that, the Management Staff is VERY unprofessional and will depute you of your complaint! I WARN you DO NOT even waste your time going to this place!!!

VERY DISPLEASED AND UNLESS THE MANAGEMENT CHANGE, I WILL NEVER GO BACK!

“Fried fish, mostly.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2012

A place like this could do so much better. First of all, most of the menu is breaded and fried fish. One or two baked options, but this isn't really a "seafood" restaurant. We were hoping for things like a good crab soup, maybe mussels or lobster. This isn't that sort of place. And they don't serve alcohol. No beer or wine. It's more of a fast-food style fried fish place. Our waitress was very friendly, about the only good thing about the place.

Rather ordinary seafood with daily specials. Reasonable prices.

“Big appetite, big plate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

Mayflower is an excellent seafood resturaunt. The food tastes great and the portions are large. I usually share a plate with my mother. The food is fresh and the staff is extra friendly. They make you feel at home because they never forget a face if you come back.

“not like it used to be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2011

We have been going to this Mayflower for several years, and it used to be excellent. Now the seafood is really hit and miss depending on when you go. On our last visit the scallops and flounder were quite good, but the baby shrimp tasted like they had been cooked earlier in the day. The seafood portions are large with more than enough to take home. Several times, though, we've had to send our baked potatoes back because it seemed that they had also been cooked earlier. The cole slaw and salads are good, but the hush puppies are just average. We have always been pleased with the servers we've had. Most of them seem to have been there awhile, so they know their customers. Even if the food has not always been up to par, we've never had any complaints about our servers. I can't say the same for the hostess, though. On our last visit we were greeted by a young lady obviously chewing gum (very unprofessional) who led us to a booth. When the elderly lady who was with me asked to sit at another booth that was more convenient for her, the hostess - without saying a word - led us to another booth where she threw the menus down on the table and walked off. Needless to say, we probably should have walked out right then, but our server was so nice and went out of her way to apologize for the rude hostess' behavior that we stayed and ate our meal. As stated earlier, sometimes the food is quite good, and other times it's only average. This used to be our go-to restaurant when we were in Roanoke Rapids, but it will probably be awhile before we go back again.
