“Texas comes to North Carolina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

Q Shack has an interesting mix of Texas and NC barbecue. My wife had the delightful Q-Cobb Salad with Romaine, Smoked Turkey, and Beef Brisket. Sadly she chose the Chipotle-Blue Cheese dressing which sounded good but seemed a bit watered down losing the full bodied flavor she thought she was getting. I had the daily special, the Smoked Brisket sandwich. This one was worth coming back for! If you're going for lunch, plan to go early or go late. They do a restaurant filling lunch business. The shop has a few tables outside just feet from the car park. That wasn't so nice, but inside has a rustic barn feel. If you're wanting a quite lunch Q Shack is not for you. The place was hopping busy, which means locals REALLY like it. This is something that speaks for itself with regard to flavor and cost/value.

“should have went somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

first time there and will be the last. all items served in individual containers which is good, however, the blackeyed peas tasted like they came straight out of the can, and just had some tomatoes and spices added to them. the mashed sweet potatoes were stringy, and the BBQ was sitting in a puddle of grease that had to be drained off before i could eat it. i will give them credit on the jalepano deviled eggs, they were good. overall, it was a very bad experience.

“Great Brisket”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I'd have to say the brisket was some of the best in NC. Most places seem to think it is okay to serve the fat on, but where brisket is sacred (Texas), it is always trimmed before serving. The brisket here was nicely trimmed, juicy, and flavorful. I love the hush puppies, too. The Texas toast could've used more butter and I think the black-eyed peas' flavor was overpowered by whatever they were cooked with, but overall, the meal was delicious and I'd definitely go back.

“Good BBQ and sides at the q shack”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

This review comes after 2 times trying the q shack, north hills, once as take out and once dining in. From both samplings I got to try the pork BBQ, brisket, Mac and cheese, collards, baked beans and hush puppies. Overall I was impressed with the quality of the food. The meats were tender and tasty and tasted fresh, not like they were sitting around all day. My favorite was the pork, i would have preffered more agressive seasoning on the brisket but it was still good. The Mac and cheese is simply awesome, cheesy and well seasoned, not mushy and oily like some versions. Collards were tasty and not overcookef, the beans were spicy and slightly on the firm side, also bit mushy. The chunks of onions and peppers in the broth also added to the flavor. Service both times was quick, and I liked the selection of sauces at the table so you can season at will.
Definitely a good choice for BBQ fans!

“NASTY NASTY BBQ!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

I never do reviews but this food was so bad that I had to comment .....

Our family was looking for some BBQ on New Years day. Our usual place was closed so we gave the Q Shack at North Hill's a try. I have not had such nasty BBQ in a long time. They should be ashamed yo serve food like that...

The full rack of ribs were obviously a few days old as they were dry, luke-warm and the bark on it was such a gross flavor. No idea what spices were on it or why. I left at least half a rack.

The pulled pork was bland and dried out.as well. No one finished that either

Everyone's FF's were under cooked, then again, 3 of the 6 folks had to return their order to get the friede okra exchanged for the the specifically ordered FF.

Everyone's slaw was warm, so we didn't even eat it..

What a waste of time and money
