“Just OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2009

Went to the Irregardless Cafe for the first time this weekend for brunch. After hearing about it for years - was dissapointed with what we found. The ambiance was great and the live music was wonderful. The downside for us was the food. The presentation was nice, but the flavor and freshness were not the best. The apples in my meal tasted canned as opposed to the fresh gala apples they described in the menu - my husbands omelette was very skimpy on the fillings and our friends french toast portion was also quite small. If they had costed less, I would have expected smaller portions, however for the so-so food quality I would have expected larger portions to match the prices they were charging since the dollars were not being spent on high cost ingredients. (Most of the brunch prices ranged from $13-17) Overall, we will probably not seek it out again, although I'd much rather visit Irregardless over a chain restaurant, but in my opinion, Raleigh has alot more to offer that far outshines this.

“Over-promised and under-delivered”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2009

I had heard this was a great place to go and dine on great food. I wish that were the case. The menu is sparse with very few options. I ordered a small plate of seafood risotto. The other guests had huge plates of food. Naturally, I thought a small plate would mean roughly half a large plate. It was more like a tenth. The risotto was runny and bland. The menu said it came with shrimp and scallops. Apparently the scallops are chopped so finely, I couldn't find a one and all four shrimp on the plate were tiny and overcooked. Our waiter was unreceptive and had to be asked for refills. Dirty plates sat on our table for at least 15 minutes and the check was brought to the table without asking if we would care for dessert. About the dessert, it was great. The brownie sundae and the apple strudel saved were a great way to finish an otherwise lousy experience.

Eh. Mediterranean platter appetizer was a great start: spicy hummus, zesty butterbean pate, fresh tabbouleh. Good service; decent beer & wine selection. My eggplant moussaka actually came out looking like a lean cuisine entree, but was pretty tasty. Atmosphere and live "lounge singer" entertainment definitely had a dated feel.
