Owner description: One of the leading art museums in the American South, the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) recently completed a major, three-year expansion that places it in the front ranks of museums nationwide. The NCMA offers a permanent collection spanning more than 5,000 years, a variety of celebrated exhibitions and public programs, an amphitheater for outdoor performances, and the nation’s largest museum park—164 acres of trails and parkland containing major works of art.

“Beautiful, artful landscaping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

The new home of North Carolina's art collection owes much to the land around it. With 168 acres or so of outdoor space to work with, it must be the envy of the U.S. art scene. The best thing about the museum is the landscaping around it. It is gorgeous and a must-see. Plus it has a large outdoor museum with lots of large, contemporary pieces.

I'm not big on how the artwork is displayed inside the museum, but the walk around the outside of it at, say, sunset is worth the trip to it. And the older museum next to it now has ample and excellent exhibition space for the many temporary exhibits that pass through.

“Decent Art for Smaller City Size”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Offers decent art for travelers and locals to enjoy. Multiple types of art and artifacts to browse through. They always have various types of events going on. I think the best way to get the most out of the museum is to be a member and come back often to take advantage of various events.

“Small museum, but worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012 via mobile

The museum had a small but varied collections, both old and modern, from all over the world, including Egypt, Italy, Africa, etc. It is definitely worth a visit, and also has beautiful sculptures throughout the property outside so that you can enjoy more art as you walk around outdoors.
