“New and Modern”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

Not one of the older downtown Marriotts here. This hotel was recently built (within last 5 years), fun bar and super friendly staff! Rooms of course are spotless. The only minor issue is these new fire safety doors on the rooms are really heavy and close with a vengeance = just be careful not to get any body parts in way of closing door! :-)

Room Tip: I always choose a high floor for better view of city

We appreciate your review and contribution to Trip Advisor!. Our door closers are strong. Self closing guest room doors are a security enhancement in the hotel business. Your door will always close and lock behind you!

Thanks again!

Right across the street from the Raleigh Convention Center, this hotel offer the convenience of being right on Fayetteville Street - a street that is sometimes closed to cars for festivals. In walking distance is a GREAT Italian restaurant (La Volta) and also The Pit BBQ. This Marriott has an excellent fitness center and pool and whirlpool. The on-premise restaurant also serves an excellent breakfast buffet - including made-to-order giant omelettes. No choice but to use the self-parking or valet parking though - both with a fee.

Thanks for the wonderful review! And thanks for mentioning the occasional street closure.
Part of being at the center of it all is negotiating with street closings during festivals. The hotel is literally 100 feet from the stage during city wide festivals. Fayetteville stays open with access to our entrance only---or you can easily park in the deck by entering under the hotel off Lenoir Street.

Thanks for contributing!

my family spent 3 days exploring Raleigh, 2 nights at the Marriott City Center hotel. Our rooms were very comfortable with excellent a/c and television and the staff were prompt, courteous and always positive. In-room breakfasts were delivered quickly but had a very ordinary, canteen presentation. The oddly decorated dining room had good food, served by a very pleasant waiter.
Valet parking staff, excellent.

Room Tip: all rooms on the 6th & 7th floors were very good.

The staff of this hotel is terrific. That includes valet parking attendees, concierge, reception, housekeeping and food and beverage. My room was clean and neat. The staff was responsive to every question and request. Wake-up calls were punctual. Front desk staff were always bright and Cherie, especially Frederick, although everyone excelled.

Room Tip: The Concierge breakfast was very good, but the selection was the same each day. Some variety would...

It is an older revamped hotel. Nice, food and drink are expensive but, based on the area it's about the normal you would pay for the area. They have a Starbucks in the lobby area so that was a plus for me.
Room service was great. The coffee was still hot when it got there. Also the perfect place if you are attending an event downtown.

Room Tip: Stayed on the 8th floor was hoping not to have to deal w/ crying children...and just so happens I di...

My recent stay was just OK.Nothing Great! I arrived in the early evening and had to valet my own bags. The lobby was huge and bright but the furniture was in need of a deep clean. The laundry room was not available due to faulty dryer and the whirlpool was out of order as well. It's a very convenient location but the service is mostly average

This Marriott is attached to the Convention Center in downtown Raleigh, NC. It is a lovely hotel. Most all amenities are provided and the breakfast is great. The only thing I found missing was a magnifying mirror in the bathroom. This seemed odd considering the clock next to the bed was equipped to play a nano or iPod! Usually this is not provided and the mirror is.

Thanks very much for your review! You are correct, none of the Raleigh Marriott City Center's guest rooms are equipped with makeup mirrors. Several years ago this was something that started appearing in guest rooms in upscale hotels. To my knowledge it was never a component of Marriott guest room's package. Marriott is currently developing the "Room of the Future". We will all learn what the world's leading hotel brand considers relevant to the next generation of travelers.

Thanks again for your contribution.
