“Great hotel in the heart of Raleigh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

My family and I came down to Raleigh for the long July 4th weekend and we were not disappointed by our stay here at the Marriott. We were able to walk right out of our hotel and right into the street festival going on. We were even able to see the fireworks from our hotel room. There are plenty of good restaurants just a short walk from the hotel.
The hotel itself was nice, clean, and spacious. The rooms were sleek and modern while being comfortable for my family.
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful with any request or question we had. The hotel manager even went out of his way to tell us to stay cool with our infant son in the hot July 4th sun.
I had no problems and would definitely stay there again the next time I needed to stay in Raleigh.
One caveat: The cost of the room we had was discounted for the July4th celebration. The non-event discount rate was significantly higher.

Room Tip: The higher floors offered a quiet space from the street festival down below.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at our hotel and your visit for the July 4th fireworks. Our hotel sits adjacent to the City Plaza. Most all festivals in Raleigh are centered at the City Plaza which is literally outside our front door. High floor assignments are helpful on those occasions as they provide a quieter setting.

Raleigh is a super town to live, work and play!

Thanks for your contribution!

I was very pleased with this hotel in the city center. You are within walking distance to many restaurants, bars, shops, and museums. The hotel is very clean. Staff were all nice. Has a bar/restaurant that is very good. The decor/finishes were nice. Room was very nice. There is a lounge on the 16th floor that serves breakfast until 10am each day. Rates were decent.

The only good staff there are hotel's location and people serving breakfast. The overall level of service is pretty low, unfortunately. They definitely need more training for the hotel's employees. In addition, if Mariott is a chain(?), then you suppose to expect the same level of service at any of their spots...

I apologize that you were not impressed by our service delivery. We take great pride in guest satisfaction at the Raleigh Marriott City Center. Besides our great location and facility it truly is what we are about. Most guests have a vastly different experience. Negative feedback is needed to improve and we certainly still appreciate your contribution.

Perfect stay. Perfectly located in the heart of downtown Raleigh.
Walking distance to GREAT restaurants and events.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

The breakfast buffett Sunday AM, was surprisingly awesome. Egg white omelets made to order, tasty fresh fruit...YUMMY if surprising.

Highly recommended for anyone attending event downtown: Redhat, Duke Energy Center, Convention Center.

We decied to visit Raleigh for the weekend to explore the city and go to Marbles Museum. We had an absolutely fabulous experience at this hotel. I can't say enough good things about our relaxing stay. First of all, the front desk staff are courteous, friendly and truly make you feel welcome at the hotel. I could go into greater detail, but truly, after years of traveling for leisure and professionally they exceeded each and every stay I've had elsewhere. Also, the hotel within itself is beautiful and impeccably maintained by the staff. I appreciated the fact that they actually helped me put together the pack and play crib for my daughter to sleep in, rather than just dumping it at the door as all hotel hotels have done in the past. The small but important things deserve mention: the toiletries are actually products I use (bath and body works); there are curtains that actually cover all sunlight so that we were able to take a mid-day nap and didn't wake up at the crack of dawn the next day; the pool and hottub are gorgeous overlooking the skylike that made us feel like princesses for the day; and, all the major downtown attractions (i.e. museum, restaurants, etc.) are within a 10-15 walking radius. We parked out car and didn't drive again until we checked out. $12 parking tab total. And unlike other hotels, there is a noise barrier between rooms and you don't hear everyone coming and going (and they don't hear us, when we had toddler meltdowns). The only thing that was a bit of a nuisance was that doors are very loud when they slam shut because of the weight of them. Wonderful stay. Without a doubt, this is the only place I will be staying for future visits. And parents of 1-10 year olds: definitely visit Marbles Museum which is a 10 minute walk from the hotel - it's an absolute MUST!

If you are going to the Raleigh Convention Center or to Maymandi Concert Hall, this hotel is is a perfect location.

It is a fairly average Marriott--there are many much nicer Marriott hotels in the world, but as would be expected from this brand, the hotel is a safe and decently clean place to stay.

That being said, our room was clean, but a little short on the housekeeping details: the toilet paper roll was almost empty when we checked in (there was a spare roll left by the toilet that we had to change ourselves), the complimentary bottle of water had already been opened, and the already chintzy complimentary in room tea "assortment" of two tea bags had one tea bag missing from the cardboard pouch.

The hotel doesn't have many elevators, and on the weekend that we stayed was full of kids and families attending weddings, beauty pageants and convention center activities. Since the concierge lounge closes at noon on Fridays, there wasn't anywhere in the hotel to get peace and quiet other than in our room.

I would recommend this hotel to people who are attending an event at the convention center or have business downtown. It is definitely not a great place for a romantic getaway, but is a decent and safe hotel.

Thank you for your review of the Raleigh Marriott City Center. Housekeeping disappoints me missing the details that you mentioned. Most posts discuss our cleanliness. I have copied our housekeeping leadership team on your issues to improve their scrutiny.
