My husband and I decided to celebrate a very, very special anniversary and New Year's Eve at the Raleigh Marriott City Center. The location is the best, right on Fayetteville St where all of the activities, fireworks and the Acorn Drop happens. We were able to see everything from the room, never leaving if we wanted to. (see pictures) Found out later that the pool floor would have been the best place to see the fireworks. The hotel is new. Has a sleek and striking design. Stylish but still warm and inviting The rooms are more spacious than expected for a city center hotel. It is right next to the Raleigh convention, so lots of parking. The Marriott beds are the best in their sector of the industry. Reading lights on the headboards are great. I need to find out where to get them. The rooms are quiet. Although we were near the elevators and the vending room, we never heard any noise. The vending machines take credit cards, great idea, no more having to make change. The rooms were very clean, no issues at all. Only the placement of the bathroom door lock was head scratcher. It is placed at the very top of the door, only a giant would be able to reach it lol( see picture) The main lobby was very crowded the entire time due to crowds waiting for the fireworks so did not spend any time exploring the lobby. Most of them were not guests. I thought it was very nice that the Hotel did not make these people leave, very much in the spirit of the holiday. In contrast the Sheraton was locked up like a drum with guards at the entrance the times we walked by, Grinch-like. The Posta Tuscan Grille is an absolutely beautiful space. Soaring ceilings, beautiful touches of wood, warm colors and Murano glass fixtures. Has a section of the de rigeur communal dining table. We only had the time to have Sunday brunch
If time is available, take time to explore the local area. We had considered at one time moving to downtown Raleigh, which is experiencinbg a wonderful urban renewal. So there are many new restaurants, both traditional and ethnic. Also a walking distance to North Carolina Museums - Art, History, Life and Science, and Natural Sciences, the Franklin Street Shopping District, Artspace and the Marbles Kids Museum.
We experience some issues, maybe due to the hotel being fully booked during our stay. Management, in particular Mr Hofmann, the General Manager, was absolutely terrific in addressing them. We are planning to make New Year's Eve at the Raleigh Marriott City Center an annual tradition!
