The Renaissance in Raleigh is incredibly over-rated. It's expensive ($260/night), which might be fine--if you're "getting your money's worth." Of course, the lobby is impeccable--to "wow" with a first impression. But the room was small (for the price), the bathroom was marginally clean, the bed was too soft (which made it somewhat uncomfortable), the breakfast food was only average, and the amenities were disappointedly absent--such as free bottled water, or a breakfast coupon or discount. We requested foam pillows, which were old and worn. When I explained my disappointment to the manager, he assured me that no other rooms were available, and that he would ensure that housekeeping would clean the room again. They did replace the foam pillows (which were only a little better). We booked and stayed four nights--so wouldn't a simple gesture of one free breakfast, or a little discount have been appropriate for a hotel of this class? I have relatives in Raleigh, and I can afford this hotel, but I will not stay at the Renaissance again.
