“Unbelievable dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Cannot begin to describe the quality and presentation of the four course dinner. Each course was magnificent both visually and in terms of taste. I found the $89 price tag for four courses to be reasonable given the quality and experience of the evening. Plus they bring you four extra courses for "free"--appetizer, mid dinner, pre-desert and post desert plus a goodie bag to bring home! Amazing.
It is hard to list every dish we tried and loved but some standouts for me were:
First Course--Kombu Cured Escolare with Seaweed Salad
Second Course--Corn and Hazelnut Bread Pudding, Seared Foie Gras and NC Mountain Trout
Main Course-Cornish Hen and Seared Beef Tenderloin
Dessert--Hot Chocolate Souffle
The added four courses that they brought us free of charge were equally superb esp the pre-dessert raspberry dish and the feta cheese appetizer (don't know precise names)
Don't be intimidated if you are not a foodie--the servers describe everything and will make recommendations. Somehow this place manages to be elegant without being the least bit pretentious. We cannot wait to come back!

“Good food but S-L-O-W service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

6 of us arrived last night, 8/15/2012 at the Granary. We live in Fearrington Village and wanted to impress our 4 out-of-town guests. 2 were 40-somethings, one 11-year-old and a 13-year-old. We ordered 6 different entrees and were overall satisfied with the meal. But the wait for food was ridiculous. We waited over 45 minutes for our appetizer. We all assuaged our hunger by eating the first round of bread, which was excellent . I finally got up twice to ask about the first course. A staff member (not our server) said they were really busy, but when I traveled the floor (3 floors actually) while going to the bathroom I saw a lot of empty tables. I suspect the employees were understaffed.

Back to our food: finally we were offered a 2nd helping of bread and the soup/salads arrived. Then another 30-45 minutes for the mains. I read other reviewers complaining about the slow service too. Granary, you need to shape up! For the prices we paid (we treated the group) you need to be more timely. This was especially embarrassing since we had guests. We will reconsider not coming here again or taking guests.

“Great place for celebrating an anniversary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

I went to this beatiful place with my wife for celebrating our anniversary.
We entered the lobby and we were taken to the bar, where the waiter offered us champange. We didn't know what to choose, so he gave us samples of the champanges until we decided which one we wanted.
After a 15 minutes having a drinking and chating in the bar, we were taken to the dinning room. We review the menu, and wine was offered. We had the Malbec, which was very good, 3 course menu that included foie gra, seafood, pork and quail, and dessert with coffee. Hot bread was offered constantly, and the staff was always helpful. The enviroment is great and very romantic.
I truly recommend this place. The cost is high, but I think it was ok for a special occation.

“Wonderful, upscale casual dining.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

Great for brunch, lunch or dinner. Outdoor seating when the weather is good, nice bar area inside. Good wine selection and mixed drinks. Crab cakes are fantastic, as is everything else. Save room for the ice creme sandwich!

“Friday nights prime rib”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

Almost every Friday night, the granary serves prime rib, and it is truly wonderful. It comes with roasted potatoes and Brussels sprouts and a Yorkshire pudding. It is a special treat. Everything we've eaten there is very good, the staff is very attentive and the drinks are generous.
When you order a glass of wine, they bring over the bottle to show you the label so you know you're getting what you ordered. Nice.
