“Great place to stay in Brevard North Carolina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2009

We just got back from a trip in Brevard and had a relaxing time in the Hampton Inn. We stayed Dec. 3 - 6. We had requested a room with no air fresheners, perfumes, no cigarette smoking, and no deodorizers, and they fully met our expectations in this regard. On Saturday, we had a delightful front desk clerk (a man who I did not note his name) who gave us a town map and provided directions and insight into places to eat and for entertainment at Brevard College. He was very friendly and helpful. This hotel is the best one in Brevard, so we are gladly staying there again. We noticed that they have fixed up the place since we stayed there last, with nice Christmas decorations. Our bed was incredibly comfortable, with a large fluffy comforter and pillows, and good mattress firmness without being hard.

Turns out Google isn't so good w/ the mountains of NC. Partially perhaps because Expedia has the wrong address for this hotel. Even after I typed in the correct address into Google on my Iphone we still got directed in a big circle; it took us an hour to find the hotel. I claim stupidity on my part; what I should have done was checked the Hampton Inn's website when we first realized we were in the wrong place. Their website has accurate directions. It is in the Wal-Mart parking lot, all the way at the back.

Room was ok; we got a weird handicap room so the shower was for people w/ a wheelchair, so it got water all over the floor. No real lip to keep the water in. Bed was ok; could have been softer but our bed at home spoils us. Walls a bit thin; could hear a lot of the neighbors. Breakfast was a beefed up continental; bananas, apples, coffee, tea, muffins/pastries and some microwavable hot items like sausage biscuits and things like that. If you like carb-rich, highly processed food, this is the place :) We ate it and it was sufficient, basically cause we paid a ridiculous price to be there during "peak" fall colors (even though the colors were all gone).

Tabor the guy at the front desk was very pleasant and had some good recommendations for dinner spots. We ate at the Asian/Sushi restaurant in the strip mall next to Wal-Mart. They recently started to offer Thai food, which is what we got, and it was spectacular. Better than any Thai food we've had in Charlotte. My hubby is from the UK and he said it was the best he's had in the States. The sushi they were dishing up looked amazing and was created with care and flair. Apparently the owners had a successful restaurant in NYC and relocated to the foothills.

We ate brunch the next day at Hob Nob and that was very good as well. The hotel is in a great spot to hit the Pisgah forest and do a scenic drive in there. And is close to the (can't remember the name of!) state forest about 15/20 min away for some mild hikes with waterfalls.

Overall we were happy with the room and location, but would not stay there again at the rate we paid (160/night). If it was cheaper we would. The Holiday Inn was booked and it was much cheaper for probably the same thing. We could never get the wi-fi to work either.

We were unhappy w/ Expedia due to the bad address, and that it said there was a bar/lounge in the hotel. I know Hampton Inn's don't usually have them but I thought, hey maybe they do things different in the mountains. We were going to sit in the bar/lounge with a pizza and a few drinks. But their lounge is 1 small sofa and a few chairs a table right in front of the doors.

I have stayed here about 5 times and am here every other Christmas because some of my family is in Brevard. The staff is very friendly and helpful and it is a quiet and comfortable place. It is snuggled next to a large mountain so it is a relatively safe place and is in walking distance of a Belk and other local Brevard shopping. Around the holidays it is a pretty busy place so make your reservations a couple months in advance. The breakfasts are usually well stocked and there are enough newspapers to get one. The internet service always works and is fast enough.

On one stay here I was in town for an unexpected funeral and the staff were really helpful. My wife had to put together a program for the funeral service very last minute and the hotel staff let us use their office copier to print the custom programs around 2 AM. This was a huge help and we could not have found a more understanding front desk clerk. We really appreciated their kindness and have stayed there a couple more times and had equally fine service experiences. Obviously this is an unusual circumstance but we were quite surprised they were so nice.

My boyfriend and I were there for a conference in Asheville, but decided to stay in Brevard (a half hour drive away) because it was cheaper and friends were also staying there. We were there for 4 days and it was quite pleasant.

The hotel was a bit hard to find, as its driveway actually enters/exits into the WalMart parking lot. The highways leading up to the hotel are quite dark at night (no streetlights except at intersections; fairly rural), and there's not much to see or do in the town proper, as everything closes rather early. The nearest major intersection is the entrance to Pisgah Forest (gorgeous road riding, with access to the Blue Ridge Parkway), and there's a bike shop and outdoors store (not much technical gear) located there. Dupont State Forest is about a 10 minute drive away.

There's a 24-hour Bi-Lo (grocery store) in the same plaza, which was nice for a cheap dinner or midnight snack. All restaurants in town seem to close by 9pm - doors locked, not just no-more-entries. The hotel eating area is located right between the lounge and the pool, the elevators are right there, and there's a TV blaring on the wall - not the quietest of settigs. Breakfast was tasty but I wouldn't call it healthy. For hot food, there were self-serve cellophane packets in a bar fridge that you microwaved according to the picture on the sticker. Options included french toast and bagel halves with cheese (and sometimes sausage or egg) on top, but everything ended up with that gummy microwaved-bread texture. For cold food, there was apples, bananas, mini boxes of cereal, milk, juice, yogurt, muffins and bread (with toaster, butter, peanut butter, jam and honey available). There's a 24-h coffee/tea station. All dishes are disposable; feel free to save them for next-day use or bring your own. There's no recycling to be found.

The room was alright, clean and comfortable, and the staff was friendly - pretty much what we expected. The back of the hotel is surrounded by trees, so it's quiet, even despite the Walmart and highways. There's a printer available in the lobby, and the wireless in the rooms was reliable, though it logs you out after a day, so don't lose the access password. There was no fridge in the room, unfortunately. We could easily get our road and mountain bikes up/down to our 3rd floor (top floor) room via the stairs or elevator. There's no exercise facility, and the outdoor pool was closed. The parking lot is ample, and we found there was tons of room to spread out while loading/unloading the station wagon.

It's difficult to find (way off in a corner of a huge parking lot, with a long, winding road you'll never find and teeny, tiny signs that occasionally point the way) but this is a clean, comfortable little property tucked away in the beautiful NC mountains. My 15 year old son was going to spend a week at a local observatory, so we decided to make it an overnight trip for the whole family. Hampton was great - the room was clean and comfortable (only 2 double beds, though, not queens), the free breakfast was edible, and the location was perfect for seeing Transylvania County's waterfalls and mountain streams. The entire family enjoyed the hotel, and next year we'll be back! (Hopefully sooner...)

  • Liked — Clean, reasonably priced, nice staff, quiet location
  • Disliked — Tough to find, Wal-Mart parking lot somewhat hazardous

Recent trip to the mountains required easy access to wilderness and this place fit the bill. Very good accomodations (as one would expect at a Hampton) and fantastic service.

I really wasn't expecting all that much from a hotel in a tiny town like Brevard, NC, but for the price, I thought it should have been way better. The lobby had a definite smell of cigarette smoke and b.o., as did all of the hallways. I requested a non-smoking room, but ended up in a smoking room (and I was desperate for a room, so that was fine). It was not the cleanest--there was dried spaghetti on my bedside table and the bathroom floor felt sticky. Also, the mattress was pulled away from the bedspring a little, revealing tons of hair, dirt, and other refuse on the top of the bedspring. I pushed the mattress back in place and tried not to think about it as I was sleeping. Ick.

Also, the place was impossible to find! The address didn't even exist on my GPS, and I drove by it 3 times because the sign, as I later discovered, is miniscule. I had to stop at a hardware store and ask a local, who luckily knew where it was (behind the Wal-Mart which is behind the Bilo, which is up on a hill and can't really be seen from the road).

The check in man was lovely, however, and while it could have been worse, it certainly wasn't worth the price. But I guess since there are really no other hotels, they can charge whatever they want!

  • Liked — Once I finally found it, it was fairly close to where I needed to be for business
  • Disliked — strange smells in rooms and hallways, not the cleanest, impossible to find
