“A real gem in Pisgah”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2008

My son and I recently stayed in the Hampton Inn Brevard while in the area for a mountain-biking trip.

POSITIVES: First of all it's NOT in Brevard, which was a good thing for two reasons: 1), it was closer to the trail action for us; 2), the town of Brevard was a rather boring, unattractive place. The location was in an unincorporated area called Pisgah Center, immediately adjacent to the Davidson River Campground of the Mt. Pisgah National Forest. It is also near a Wal-Mart, which was convenient, and there was a decent Mexican restaurant nearby, along with a couple of bike shops. This hotel was very affordable, only abourt $80/nite for the two of us. The staff were VERY friendly, especially the lady on the evening shift. We schlepped our mountain bikes in & out of the hotel each day and no one batted an eye. The complimentary breakfast was a bit above the usual carb-laden fare, and the coffee in the lobby was very good and, usually, fresh.

NEGATIVES: The pool wasn't open yet, but it was because the water wasn't warm enough. That's about it for negatives.

My excellent rating might be a little overstated but, relative to other lodging options in the area, the value of this place is not to be denied.

I couldn't agree more with the last 2 reviews about too little choices here in Brevard. My rate was $99 and I thought that was too much. There was nothing wrong about this hotel but there was nothing really right that impressed me either. I did read reviews from Tripadvisor before picking out this hotel but I didn't check the hotel amenities. So, even if I was prepared for the low value, I was disappointed for no refrigerator, no microwave, and no balcony.

I was lucky enough to have the tree view instead of Walmart view. Check-in was brisk. The room was okay. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Bath room was clean. Shower head and drainage worked properly. Breakfast was above average with those microwave omlets and sausage biscuits. Well...it's not ideal but at least there was some meat there. Good coffee. Nice dining area. The breakfast room person was really nice to us. We were feeding our elderly mother with our own food after breakfast serving time. All foods and drinks were already kept out. The breakfast room lady kept offering us some orange juice while she was cleaning up the room.

Decent hotel. Good services. Low value. Cannot wait for more competition(more hotels) around this area.

The good news -- The Hampton Inn in Brevard is one of the best places to stay in the area. The bad news is there just aren't a lot of options to choose from there. So saying the Hampton Inn is one of the best places to stay isn't really saying a whole lot.

Rates there during the summer skyrocket, due to the heavy tourism season in the Brevard/Asheville area and the lack of other places to stay in the area. My rate there was $156 a night.

This Hampton Inn does indeed over look a parking lot with a Walmart and a strip shopping center. Views on the other side of the hotel are better -- forest views. The hotel doesn't have a work-out/exercise room, but it does have a small outdoor pool. Rooms are not as nice as the average Hampton Inn rooms, and the decor could use some updating. However, it's a pretty quiet place to stay, and it's still better than the other local chain hotel options. Brevard is changing and growing rapidly, so I would bet some other wise business person opens a new chain hotel before too long.

If you're looking for good eats and you consider yourself a foodie, I highly recommend the Sora japanese restaurant in the strip shopping center by Wal-Mart. (You could easily walk there from the hotel.) Fantastic sushi! It's an attractive restaurant, too, with modern decor and very good service.

  • Liked — Being close to Brevard Music Center
  • Disliked — The room isn't really that nice; the lack of an exercise room; the location right next to a Wal-mart

This Hampton Inn isn't up to the standards for the chain, but there are too few choices in Brevard to say there is a better option. We laugh about the view over looking the Wal-mart parking lot. In such a beautiful part of the country, it's a shame they couldn't have selected a better hill. We've stayed here several times, but this last time noticed it's beginning to show some wear and tear and shabbiness. Our room didn't get cleaned one of the three days, presumably because we asked not to be disturbed when the crew was on the hall starting at 8:00 a.m. But, I still love those fluffy beds! And the staff was helpful and friendly, except when it came to difficulty connecting to wireless internet, when they seemed clueless and the "help" number provided in the room was not remotely helpful. (Fortunately, my college aged son was!) There are signs of a new chain starting construction, so until then, it'll be the Hampton Inn for us, and we'll check out other options if they don't remodel soon.

  • Liked — nicest chain in town
  • Disliked — trouble with wireless internet access

A typical Hampton located next to Wal-Mart shopping center. Hotel access is along road bordering shopping center parking lot. Several stores (Wal-Mart, Bi-Lo, etc.) and restaurants (Taco Bell, Spurs Steakhouse, BBQ joint, etc.) within walking distance. Room was average size. Bathroom has small corner sink and lots of floor space. Small amount of mold in tub area but otherwise room was clean. Continental breakfast included frozen breakfast items (omelets, sausage biscuit, etc.) along with standard breads, cereals, etc. Two microwaves to nuke frozen items but still ended up with long lines when hotel was at or near capacity.

  • Liked — good location from which to tour mountains
  • Disliked — hard to find first time
