“Pinehurst # 2 course”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Visited the Pinehurst Resort April 2-4, 2013. Bucket list trip. Three of us. Stayed at Carolina Hotel on premise. Three to a huge room. Played course 8 first. Played 27 holes in 5 hours. No one else on the course. Played Pinehurst # 2 on the morning of the 3rd. Had two caddies. Greg carried doubles and Willie McRae rode in his cart and caddied singles. I love playing with caddies ! They add character to any round. Willie is 80 years old and has been caddied for 70 years ! Lots of great stories. Greg is the 'rookie' only having been at PInehurst 15 years. Knew the course inside and out. I played all 18 holes with the same ball. Not typical ! Course designed so that if you get in trouble you can find your ball amidst the pines, sand, etc. Greens are ridiculously tough. Finished in four hours walking. Hotel was nice, food was good and surprisingly reasonably priced. Didn't need a rental car from the airport. Take the PInehurst shuttle and then take the shuttle everywhere once at the resort. We should have heeded the advice 'don't play another course the day you play # 2.' We did play again and I shot the worse round in years. Courses 2, 4, 8 were great. Course 5 not. April is too iffy weather-wise. Go in May-June or Sept-Oct.

“Pinehurst Course Number 4”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

There was not a listing for course number 4 and I hear course number 2 is a great place to play. Number 4, not so much. First of all, we were told that there was no need for a caddie and that we'd have GPS in the cart. Wrong! If you've never played this course before, you need some type of assistance. We rented clubs and when delivered, they were dirty. No golf towel, no bag tag, no tees and a few titliest 2-piece balls. If you are going to pay this much to play a round of golf, the resort should provide you with typical high-end resort schwag. Very disappointing. That would have been fine had the course been well manicured. However, you couldn't find a good lie in the fairway and the greens were hard as a rock. Not fast hard however, just not receptive to shots and then slow to putt. Play another course or play another resort if you are looking for a golf experience that matches the price.

“Don't go.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013 via mobile

Waste of money. 1st the starter was rude, the caddy never shut up. They charge you $400 for round and its nothing special. Maintenance was lacking. Hospitality was very poor thru out the whole resort. The way you were treated was the same way you get treated at your local muni. Comparing pinehurst experience to TPC Sawgrass. There is no comparison, would recommend TPC Sawgrass to everyone, would recommend raking pass on pinehurst. The whole resort was dated, hospitality was horrible. They love taking your credit card, then try don't help you or make you feel special.

“Best Birthday Ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

The Magnolia offers old southern charm with very nice upgrades! Spacious and welcoming rooms, large sitting areas to relax in, rocking chairs on the very long porch and a modern spa facility that will knock your socks off and turn your body to jelly.
