“Not a five star property, but a five star experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

This place is old and the furnishings are old. Now that we have that out of the way, The rest of the experience is outstanding.

The inn will be 100 this year and has such a rich history. The service is southern charm with a little bit of attitude thrown in for fun.

Spend some time outside on the porch. Give the cat a rub when he walks by. His name is Marmaduke, or you can just call him "Duke".

Try your hand chipping in the house. There is a board in front of the fireplace with a hole in it. The house provides a chipping iron and balls. Bet you can't do this at your home.

Will be back there in three weeks and again in May. I can't wait. I wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.

The Pine Crest is a 100 year-old inn; and has largely remained as it was. If you go to Pinehurst, and want to get the true flavour of the town, stay downtown in one of the old inns. The rooms are classic, not necessarily perfect...but fine. The restaurant is great, and the service is very good. The bar is a great gathering spot for locals. We used it as a stopover on our return to Canada from Florida; beats the traditional highway-hotels; for the overnight fee (same as most highway inns) the Pine Crest includes a 'real' breakfast...excellent.

Room Tip: Standard room is fine; bath has been replaced by tiled shower.

On the first Crisp Friday afternoon in November we sat on the front porch and all the rockin chairs were a rockin! Beverages galore with conversation and folks making new friends. You can't go to the Pine Crest Inn and not make a new friend. We met folks from Charlotte who had never been. They experienced what we already knew, this place is steep in history and memories where made there! Can't wait to go next year while they celebrate their 100th anniversary.

Stayed at Pine Crest for 3 nights Aug. 23 thru Aug 26. Was treated like family from the minute I arrived for our Golf Trip. Andy had our tee times all set for us. Carol took care of us each night with dinner reservations. The room was nice granted not new this is a very old Inn.The king bed was very comfy. I wish the rooms had wi-fi but they have it in the lobby & porch so not a big issue. Dinner & Breakfast are included so you can't beat the price. If your going to Pinehurst you can't go wrong staying here.

A lot of our complaints have been touched on in other reviews. The main thing here is that The Pine Crest Inn needs to be CLEANED!! They also need to update the main Inn as well as surrounding cottages they own. The furnirute is beat up, dirty and old. The carpets are terrible-- I have never seen so many stains on carpet. There were roaches, spiders and other misc. bugs all over. The bed covers are very outdated and dirty. With some updating and lots of cleaning this place could be a great stay. We could say so much more about our stay at the Inn but I won't go there b/c it simply upsets me. We were there for a three night stay and left after the first night. We were not charged for our one night stay due to all of the issues- which we do appreciate. The staff was nice. The bar gets a bit rowdy at night but you can stay away from that area if you don't like it. They do allow smoking so as you arrive and depart you are greeted with a cloud of smoke. We will not return to this property. Our hope is that the owners read these reviews with an open mind and make the changes mentioned -- if they do this could be a great property. It is in a wonderful location.

Sure the Inn is old but most of the properties in the Village of Pinehurst are old. I think of it as having character. We had 12 guys on a golfing outting and other than not having a swimming pool it was a terrific place to stay. Our room had a king size and single bed that worked really well for two people. Staff was really personable and helpful. Rate included a really good, order from the menu, breakfast. In the evening there was a lot of people hanging out on the porch or the bar so there was a lot of energy. Since we stayed weekend nights, they had live music in the lobby. Have stayed at different places in Pinehurst before, including the Carolina Inn, but based on the price and ambience, I will be staying here in the future.

We love staying here, laid back, old school, great food. Service is great, the bar is where all the locals hang out and it is in the heart of Pinehurst. We always visit here if we are going to Pinehurst!
