“Family Owned; Island Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

We have stayed here several times. Mrs. Clark is wonderful along with the rest of her family. There's not a thing they would not do for you if you needed something. The office has ice for a nominal fee which is just perfect for loading up the cooler in the morning before hitting the beach. The rooms are simple and each one has it's own charm. You can walk to the coffee shop easily and you are close to the infamous "Back Porch". Some of the units have a screened porch which is a plus when the squeeters are thick. It's a simple place that will remind you of easier times.

Room Tip: Courtyard is your spot if you are social.

We just completed our third trip to the island and have stayed at Edwards each time. During that time we've had 3 different courtyard rooms...one was an efficiency. This trip we didn't get the kitchenette, but the room was large nonetheless. The a/c worked fine and the room had the unmistakeable "beach" aroma that rooms inevitably get at the beach. I have to say that I prefer this smell to a "febreezed" room. The shower was small but other than that the room was great. The retro decor is always interesting at Edwards. There is a refrigerator in the room which is much larger than the little dorm-sized units you'd see at a chain hotel. So if you want to bring half gallons of milk, 2 liter drinks, or lunch fixings, no worries keeping them cold. EoO is just a few steps away from the Back Porch restaurant which comes in handy after a long day of traveling...sometimes you just don't want to get back in the car! The courtyard is canopied by a big live oak, and has several picnic tables and seating areas to relax. Each room has a small screen porch which is great for enjoying coffee or a snack when the wind isn't stirring and you don't want to mess with insect repellent. Thank you, EoO.

Room Tip: Staying on the courtyard is convenient. The small courtyard parking area has a low spot-don't pa...

Go to Ocracoke "off season" and you will enjoy the calm & quiet at reduced rates for an over-night stay. Some restaurants were closed or had limited hours but we had no trouble finding something that was open. We stayed at Edwards, which we found on-line. It would not be suitable for the "rich & famous" because it is quaint, quiet and retro....all as seen on their website. We, however, love this kind of place. Upon arrival we found the room a bit out of date, but it was extremely clean and well kept. It was just the lamps, lights, furniture and bedspread that looked retro! But everything worked and everything was CLEAN! We grew to love it in the two days that we were there. The family who owns it were wonderfully accomodating, helpful and friendly. Remember that we were there in April which is off season. I can't imagine being in Ocracoke in SEASON...way too crowded for us and then the accomodations might not have seemed so quaint. You do hear traffic noise and people talking outside and walking by. But we did not hear anything from the rooms beside us. Only one issue and that is that the screen doors slam shut if you don't hold it from doing so. Our "neighbors" were not so willing to stop the slamming, so when they were coming and going, we knew it. The rooms we stayed in were attached in a row and had a wonderful, shaded porch with two rocking chairs and a table to each room. We sat there drinking our coffee in the morning. You can walk anywhere from Edwards or rent a bike from them. Try Zillie's just down the road for a beer or glass of wine; the Ocracoke Coffee shop just down the same road is a five minute walk from Edwards and is wonderful (even includes a Thrift Store, but sadly that was not open when I was there). We would visit the Edwards' again!

Room Tip: Rooms or cabins are available. Rooms do not have cooking or refrigerators. Choose which suits your v...

I just recently (April 8 - 11) took my two best friends to Ocracoke Island and we stayed at Edwards of Ocracoke. This was my second time staying there and I WILL BE BACK! Clean rooms, great staff, quiet location, bike rentals, etc... Everything was perfect!!! The three of us slept comfortably in one of the rooms with a kitchenette - and we ate several of our meals after using the fully equipped kitchenette. **NOTE - there wasn't a microwave - no problem for us, but just wanted to let other know. I just love the vintage decor and feel of the place!

Room Tip: I like room #4 - quite corner room :)

Remember the days when motel rooms had real keys, the owner showed you a room before you checked in and without asking, and then gave good advice about the local hot spots? That's Edwards. Friendly, helpful, clean, retro, reasonablly priced, quiet and walking distance to everything in Ocracoke. In a word.....ideal.
