Our family getaway was just perfect. Being from the big apple and traveling seen family is nice to settle at a place like this. Stay during the last week of August for 3 nights only. Needed for just a few days. Well should of stay there and have family visit me there, instead of me cutting my trip short. Okay now for the inside scope.Paws Awhile was on the westside of Oak Island, they consider this the quite side. Which is quite right, the west side is very quite since there virtual nothing on that side of the island. There is a water sport rentaplace midway. The house from outside seems small and starting to show the age. But once you walk in it just lovely. For small family very roomy and clean. If your looking for that perfect home, go home! This is not your 4-5 start with all the amenities. This is a great location for your family. From the back door the beach was 3 minuted away. I love the roof bacony. In the middle of the night when all the folks are asleep the stars are even shinier, special with some drinks. PS. Balcony is clean. :) sorry!.Now some insight about the island. There are three main streets on this side. IMPORTANT, Beach drive,(main road) which ran across the island, cars travel on this street. The beach front property's are on this side. NO GOOD if you have kids. My opinion! Dolphin Dr. in the middle and Pelican Street last. They are both literary 3 to 4 minute walk to the actual water. You can't get any lazier than that. Now in regards to the beach front property's. NOT worth it, besides the water view. You do not have access to the beach since the dunes are protected and can't walk on them. You need to go around to the public access to the beach entrance. Second many homes look outdated. My opinion! The homes on Dolphin Dr and Pelican are much newer and big. (Not all). FAMILIES, I have a 4, 6 year and nephew of 8 year old that visit. Being on the middle Dolphin street was nice since rarely any car passed there. This gave me a piece of mind knowing that the little one's could run outside and not worry to much. As for the island itself the eastside is really nothing going on there, tiny small local restaurants, don't expect a scene. There is a local super market, ex. 7 minutes from 23 street. Walmart about 12 minutes from 23 street. Everything closes by 9pm. Few corporate pizza in the area. MUST visit Southport romantic old town very historic, about 4 bar/restaurants in front of pier or water. They all close around 9pm so go early. This is about the most excited as it get in both areas. Lots of tiny shops. I`m from the city so shopping was not on the list for us in this area. But pick an Oak Island shirt for $8 at a oak island shop. Same shirt for $20 at southport, you get the idea. Overall I will definitely come back here, it was peace and quiet. Thank you for reading my rant.
