“Good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2010

Good value and a good central location. Rooms are very basic. Dated but very clean. Small refrig,, coffee maker, hair dryer. No phone. Small shower! Other folks staying were not loud, but I could see how that could greatly impact a stay here.

I've been staying at Owens Motel during summer weekends for more than 10 years and it has become my relaxing beach retreat each week.

The uniquely furnished oceanfront efficiency rooms, with recently renovated bathrooms, provide all the amenities one would need whether staying a day or a week.

The east-facing deck, with its unobstructed views of beach, ocean and under-construction-pier is a welcomed retreat for spectacular sunrises, an end-of-the-day pause before dinner or a moonrise at night. The west-facing, multi-level front entry porch provides great views of the sound and awesome sunsets.

Though the rooms are cooled by AC, I prefer to raise the window sash and partake of the ocean breezes and listen to the ever-crashing surf.

The front office staff are the friendliest and the housekeepers the most efficient possible; with a welcome that extends from the moment I step foot on the premises, with its abundance of the flowering container garden, to the threshold of the meticulously clean rooms.

The location in the village of South Nags Head is outstanding and within steps of fine dining (at Owens' Restaurant -- the best on the beach), local groceries (at Cahoons), gas station, 24/7 convenience store, outlet mall, and well-known hangout Sam 'n Oamies. Access to Manteo and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore is the most direct possible.

We decided to book his hotel because we had a coupon through Expedia. The rate for an oceanfront efficiency was $100 plus tax (for October). When we drove up the hotel there was hardly any parking spaces by the room. If you drove a big SUV, forget you would have to park across the road. The place outside looked very old and sad. All the employees are super friendly. The room was very clean. There was no telephone in the room There was a microwave, toaster, coffee maker and appliances. The room was tastefully decorated. The bathroom was small with only a shower but a large shower-big enough for two. There was no vanity in the bathroom. The room had direct access to beach but there were rooms beside ours from the next hotel with no barrier. You could have touched the people if you wanted. The beach was clean. There was a restaurant across the street but expect to pay at least $80 including tip.

My boyfriend's sister got married in the Outer Banks in May. The entire wedding party stayed at Owen's. It was the perfect location, easy access to the beach, clean, and made our stay so much fun. It's centrally located so you can get to any other part of the outer banks with out spending the day in the car. They are very friendly and accomodating. We will be back

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in the non-ocean side. I think that the ocean side rooms have been renovated, but the others not. Our room was definitely dated, and the bathroom was small and kind of funky. I had read reviews and expected this though so it wasn't a surprise. The room was clean and comfortable though. The location was great, ocean access and close to the outlet malls, stores, and restaurants. Their restaurant was really good, definitely spendier, but the food was great.

This location has the Owens Restaraunt right next door which is pricey but the food and service is absolutely awesome. The motel itself leaves something to be desired. The bathroom was so small you can barely sit on the toliet and the shower is barely enough room to get into. And don't even think about turning around in the shower because you would fall out. There is a tiny little shower curtain that is as thin as a sheet and doesn't keep any water from escaping the shower. No one else can use the bathroom for brushing their teeth, etc. while you are using the shower because they would get sprayed with water from the shower and of course there is the lack of room. There were ants and other bugs in our room that we couldn't get rid of even when we didn't leave anything sitting out for them to get into. The walls are paper thin and you can literally hear EVERYTHING the people on both sides of you are doing. Our daughter was woke up by the neighbors on more than one occasion at two and three in the morning. The parking lot is so small you usually cannot find a place to park. They don't even have enough parking spaces to match the amount of rooms they rent out. One nice thing was the staff was very friendly and though they couldn't do anything about the bugs, size of the bathroom, etc. they did a great job of cleaning up the rooms and helping guests. Also it did have a microwave and small fridge which a lot of motels don't anymore and a small pool for the kids to play in. This motel is a little less then other competing motel but not the least expensive by far. I expect quite a bit more from a place you are spending over 100 dollars a night in.

The Owens' Motel was nothing fancy but was just what we needed. The room had everything we needed including a frig and microwave. There was not a telephone but we would not need it anyway. The bathroom was not huge but sufficient. The staff/owners were extremely kind and helpful. Regardless of what side of the street you are on, you are very close to the ocean. Its also quick and easy to get to when you arrive in Nags Head from US-64. This is a great place for an affordable room for short term stays. Will certainly be wiling to stay here again.
