“Very accommodating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

This motel is not a Hilton...but I don't think that's a bad thing. The rooms are not what you would find in a nicer hotel, but since this isn't a Hilton, the employees are able to be more accommodating and flexible than in any full service or even, self-service hotel. There are pool toys provided in the pool area, residents are allowed to hang their towels over the balcony, and one can chain a bike nearly anywhere. The front desk workers were so accommodating - they even bought a big pot for us to boil our crabs in when we asked. ...I would definitely stay here again based on the service alone, not to mention that the hotel is on the beach, on the bike path, and has an 8' deep pool. I do wish a continental breakfast was provided, but our apartment had a refrigerator, so we bought cereal and milk to eat each morning.

Thank you for your review of the Colonial Inn. We do appreciate your feedback. Thanks for your kind comments regarding the staff. No, we are not a Hilton, but we certainly take pride in our ability to please our guests and we take extra time and pay extra attention to the needs of our guests because we are a smaller property. We are glad the pool was to your liking! Have a great summer and we hope that you will return at some point to see us again :)

We stayed for a week in the two bedroom apartment that sleeps up to 10 with our family of 7. We enjoyed the stay very much. When I asked if their was a larger pan available for cooking they went out and bought one for me. I can't think of any better service. The house keeping staff were wonderful all week long. The pool was clean and enjoyed by our children. The room was everything we were expecting it to be! Thank you for a wonderful vacation!!

Nice overall Inn. Needs remodeling, more parking for sure. Staff was very polite and helpful. There were a few things wrong with our room and these things were fixed immediately. WIFI...was horrible at best. With teenagers with us that was a huge disappointment. Beach was literally within feet...pool was very nice and well kept.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment. worked out well for space however with AC only in the living r...

Patricia, thanks for the review. We did some renovations in 2012, 2013, and 2014, but seeing as the Colonial Inn is an older property, there are always things that can be improved. The limited parking is sometimes a hassle, but we do have the overflow parking lot that is less than a quarter of a mile away. We certainly apologize for the WIFI not being in service at the time of your stay, sometimes technology glitches out of our control happen at the worst possible times. We appreciate your understanding and we are glad whatever room issues you had were taken care of quickly. We are so glad you enjoyed the pool and hope that you will return to see us again sometime!

Our family has stayed at Colonial Inn since I was little and the pier was owned by Joe Justice. It is what it is, a smaller, historically older, out dated motel.. but that is what gives it character. That being said... we did have a few issues. We traveled as a family of 11 (4rooms oceanfront) to remember my sister. I am addressing only my room in this review. We had the oceanfront efficency, a very nice large room with pull out couch, small shower (not helpful with toddlers that need a bathtub), didn't like the traffic of other guests as the only access to their rooms are right in front your window- (and some were nosey) the only downside was the fact that our refridgerater did not close and we had to use a wedge to keep the door shut- we were told that one was ordered but during the week stay it was never replaced. The younger gentleman at the front desk was very understanding and seemed to try his best to get replaced, as for the older lady with glasses.. she was not.. when asked if it was going to be replaced (remember toddler who liked to pull the wedge out) we were told " why? is it a problem" when we stated "yes it is" she looked at a younger maintance guy who said it should be on a truck and we should have it about 9am.. great.. Never Happened.... when I mentioned at check out (same lady) she shrugged and said "well we can always get what we want"... and then answered the phone. If you have every had to deal with a faulty fridge door and a toddler its just frustrating.. SO other than that!! Joshua (Manager) was very very gracious when we found out, at the time of check in, that they no longer serve a continental breakfast.. budget crunch... A few housekeepers remembered us from last year and I can say that they are the best! Very friendly, personable and fun!!! Kudos to them, and I hope that they get the pat on the back or a raise, because they deserve it!! All around, my 4 had a great time at the beach and in the end thats what matters... thanks!

Heather, first off I'm elated to hear you and your family enjoyed your time at the beach. I sincerely appreciate such detailed feedback as this helps us improve each and every day. I will certainly share your kind words with regard to the housekeeping staff. The front desk agent that spoke to you in that manner will be dealt with as that is in no way how we do business and I sincerely apologize. As for the refrigerator this sounds like a misunderstanding. The refrigerator was ordered however you should never have been promised a delivery date as this varies from the vendor. I do apologize for this misunderstanding and I will ensure that staff understands how this misunderstanding may have happened. Again, I am glad to hear you enjoyed your time at the beach and sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered on our side. We do hope you return soon.

My husband and I spent a week in one of the beachfront rooms for our honeymoon and it was wonderful!! The beach was literally steps away from the door and the staff was so nice! The proximity of other restaurants and local sites (Tortuga's Lie, Seaside Art Gallery, Nags Head Pier) made being able to imbibe with a meal and not worry about finding a cab possible. The room was on the small side and if you're used to amenities it will seem a little bare bones to you. However, if your looking to slip away to a semi-touristy, somewhat quiet corner (surprising with all the the families with little ones, but it was!) of a beautiful beach town this is the place for you!!

The Colonial Inn is reasonably priced but its age is showing. Shower was small and moldy. Also if your party has more than one car the other ones have to be parked down the street about two blocks away.

I sincerely apologize you didn't fully enjoy your stay with us. Our parking lot is admittedly on the smaller side and I am sorry for any inconvenience. Due to it being smaller we want to ensure everyone that stays with us has a place to park. This is why we ask those with multiple vehicles to park in our over flow parking lot which is approximately a quarter of a mile away. Mold should never exist in any hotel and I will certainly look into this. Our housekeeping department typically is top notch so this is unacceptable. I appreciate your feedback as it only makes us better.

Older motel but meets our needs. Nags Head pier is right next door and the beach is just over the dune. Everyone was happy. Great staff! Smallish, but OK rooms. Tight parking. Nice pool. Kitchens in efficiencies not well stocked so bring a pot for crab legs! Some bathrooms are very tight so "Big People Beware!"

Room Tip: Choose an apartment rather than a room if possible.
