Description: Grits Grill is a decidedly southern place to have a great breakfast or lunch year round. It's open till 2 pm daily. Most of the cooking is done right behind the diner style front counter. Eggs any style, chipped beef, omelettes, hotcakes and of course grits (cooked just about any style) are breakfast specialties and served anytime. Lunch is full of specials and deli offerings. Owned locally. Staff is well known for being warm and friendly. Come have breakfast with us anytime!

“Creamy, smooth, buttery grits!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Stopped in here on our last day of vacation in Ocracoke, on our way back home, which was a Sunday. It was probably around 10:00, so they were understandably busy. We were told there would be about a 15 minute wait to be seated. Not an extra inch of space inside so we waited outside and were seated in 10 minutes. It was pretty shoulder to shoulder, so you really had to scoot up close to the table to avoid bumping the chair next to you. Of course, I had to try the shrimp and grits. The grits were absolutely cooked to perfection....creamy, smooth, buttery. They were topped with an ample helping of crumbled crispy bacon and shrimp. The shrimp were on the small side, but there were lots of them, so no disappointment there. My husband ordered one of the breakfast platters with scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage and toast. He enjoyed all of it, with the exception of the hash browns, which he said were not very crispy. Staff was friendly and prices were reasonable. Overall, pretty good. I would pop in again the next time we are in the area, for the grits alone.

“Great breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

We were looking for a good place for breakfast and found this place in Nags Head. Other people must have discovered it too because there was a 45 minute wait, but it was well worthwhile, as the breakfast was excellent! I had the french toast, my husband had an omlette and my mother-in-law had the chipped beef on toast and all of them were delicious.

“No Grits No Glory...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

That's their slogan and they lived up to it. I grew up on grits and these took me back to being 5 YO. Pancakes, hash browns, and bacon--cooked to perfection. Sitting was a bit crammed. I was shoulder to shoulder with a guy who steam shoveled grits and creamed beef into his mouth. Based on the sound effects, he enjoyed it.

Breakfast was entertaining. The grill operated on a method of organized chaos. If you have a shellfish allergy, alert your server and sit at the counter if ordering an omelette. You want to make sure omelette cook uses a non-shellfish contaminated pan. Shrimp are cooked in the same pan as omelettes and pans are reused without being washed. Also, be aware that the same fryer is used for shrimp and everything else.

Service was quick. Food was bountiful and tasty. The grits were firm, soft, and creamy but not runny--just like my mom's. The grits were a 10. I'd give a 5 but the potential risk of cross contamination in a chaotic grill scared me. Please note there was no cross contamination in the preparation of my meal. I avoided the omelette.
