This is the local's little undiscovered gem, but I can't keep it in any longer! The place is a little hole in the wall in a not-all-that-appealing strip mall. It is tiny, although it has actually expanded into a second store front since they opened.
Working across the street, I started ordering the chicken salad lunch box. It's a great deal, with a cup of their soup of the day, a side such as orzo or bean salad, a mini-cupcake or cookie, and a drink for less than $10. You can't order out everyday, but I can't stop thinking about their soups!
Every single one of them is awesome: Carrot Ginger, White Bean, Potato Onion, Mushroom, there's one more I can't think of. They are pureed though, so no chunks of potato, in case that is a game changer for you.
So I start eavesdropping around my office to see if anyone is ordering, so I can add my soup onto the order. It's only $3 for a nice sized cup, and it's so warm and delicious this time of year. A bowl is only $6, and the creamy crab is a little more for both of course.
I recommend the chicken salad on a croissant, but I have never had a bad sandwich there. As for the size, it is very small, with limited seating. Going there for a lunch date once, I had to settle for the Chinese buffet next door, because there just wanted anywhere to sit! So it sounds like the secret's out. Cafe Lachine rocks. Enjoy!
