“We had been before, and this time was excellent too”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

We were somewhat put off by the reviews that mentioned poor service and mediocre food, but our previous experiences over several years had been so positive that we took our hosts there on a Tuesday evening. Some of the reviews had focused on I attentive staff, but as we walked through the rain glistening herb plants,we were warmly welcomed and asked our choice of indoor or outdoor seating. We chose the patio, and our waiter asked our drinks. We chose a reasonably priced Argentinan malbec. The trout, our favorite in times past, was sold out, sowe tried the shrimp scampi, salmon, and a Greek salad topped with salmon. Our salads were fresh, crisp and dressed lightly. All entrees arrived in a timely manner. The fish was correctly cooked. We shared the waiter's recommendation, two interesting cheesecakes. One was black cherry and chocolate, the other vanilla and lavender. Both shared a delightfully light base. The coffee was excellent. The earlier rain had passed, and we sat and talked in the cool of the evening.

“Not good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Your'e pretty limited to what you can find, restaurant-wise, in such a small town but even so, Doyles had pretty good reviews so I was hopeful. The outside seating is nice and casual with a fire pit and live music but the inside tries for a more upscale atmosphere with its napkins stuffed into water glasses. The staff seemed to change depending on where you sat too. Outside, they wore t-shirts. Inside, they wore ties. Due to the crowd, we had no choice but to sit inside. Our waitress was cooly polite but not friendly. We stared at the menu of $30 entree's and didnt see anything we wanted. When my brother asked if there was any way to get a burger, the waitress brought us a different menu. Apparently that is another difference between outside and inside. Three of us ordered burgers and my mother ordered the special which was blackened salmon. It took over an hour to get our food! We sat there while the sky darkened and we were the last ones sitting inside. Our waitress must have forgotten about us too because she seemed surprised to come around the corner and see us still sitting there. When we told her we hadnt eaten yet, she disappeared to the kitchen and re-emerged 5 minutes later with our food. The burgers were okay but the fish was overcooked and seasoned so heavily, my mother couldnt eat it. Next time, we are just going to stick to Murphy's Chophouse.

“THE BEST! Do not miss!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

As a "tourist" from Florida we were looking for something a bit upscale from the usual in SW North Carolina to celebrate our last day there. We took at chance on the Sunday "Brunch" which was not what we expected! We entered a lovely appointed dining room with a view; nice table set - double linen-; and had the most incredible breakfast at around noon... My Eggs Benedict were to do die for and I am very fussy on the sauce.. plus I asked my eggs to be done a specific way that the chef probably cringed over My friend's friend's French Toast with a special light cheese ( forgot the name ) was so light and delightful! He said it was THE best french toast EVER. The Bloody Mary was the best ever. The entire place had a calm, elegant, yet classy presence. Service wonderful. A Must for the anyone visiting the Murphy area.

“A real let down”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

Take a basic 70-80's style dinner house menu add a nice tablecloth and think your gourmet? Come on..... can you say pretentious? Very nice wine list, chose 4 different items all were out, gave up on that, then ordered non-sweet iced tea, given sweet. The waiter was nice, not very knowledgeable, Had mozza. sticks for appetizer, do you folks ever change your fryer grease Wife had the Capo's chicken...... she regretted it. Sadly things really did go down hill from there I had the N Y Steak supposedly 12-14oz it was 10 oz at best, meat obviously not choice not trimmed well, too much fat. Baked potato was obviously a reheat from a previous night.
We had heard good things about Doyle's seen the signs, heard it was under new management. Perhaps we will be back but not for some time for we don't eat out all that often and this was a great disappointment. Meanwhile if you are looking for really great imaginative food fixed right and not pretentious there are several really great choices in Murphy....... just not here.

“Greatly improved”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

I have taken associates to lunch three times in the last month and all meals and service were very good. They have now figured out the key ingredient to having a loyal following. CONSISTENCY! I will be going back.
