“Andy Griffith Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

Call in advance to the Best Western to have this unique experience. You will feel like a movie star as people stop in front to take photos. This was a surprise for my 12 yr old son, and without the kind staff at the front desk who played along, it was the BEST SURPRISE EVER!. Despite the busy front desk swarmed with people, the girls were wonderful by granting permission to swing by and take a few photos, even told us how to get to "our room" inside. He had no idea we were spending the night. The house was comfortable and the kitchen was equipped with dishes and the like. It is however, an older home and that must be kept in consideration. It has AC and everything works, but the large back yard is beautiful with the large magnolia tree. The purpose is to show how Andy and his family lived - as my son explained to me when I commented on the old windows and the bathroom. We came back to the hotel for breakfast the next morning - it was enjoyable with the regular items. The pool was perfect temperature and the towels were fresh and fluffy. What a nice treat to the end of a lovely beak in routine.

Room Tip: Further away from the evelators is best.

We had a great nights sleep and a great breakfast in the morning. The staff was very friendly and the newly renovated room was super. Great new beds were very comfortable.

We stayed here in May, 2012, during a trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway. The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was on the skimpy side, probably at the lower end of what one expects of a free breakfast deal. Still, it was a good value for the price: clean, comfortable, and safe.

This hotel was very clean and worth the price. We stayed over one night during the memorial day weekend, and even as busy as the hotel was, the staff was responsive, helpful and courteous. The beds were great, the towels fluffy, and our room had adequate space for us. The pool is heated, so we were able to swim. The continental breakfast was plentiful and organized. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone traveling through Mt. Airy.

We chose this hotel on our way to hike the Blue Ridge Parkway trails. It was convenient to Stone Mountain State Park and an entrance to the parkway. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, and check-in was simple and fast.

There was a hair-dryer and coffee-maker, but no refrigerator or microwave. Breakfast from 6:00 am - 10:00 am, but we chose to eat at the restaurant next door (down the hill), and didn't even take a peek at the selection at the hotel.

We had a ground floor room that faced the truckstop with two beds. It was clean enough, but not impressive - dirt in the corners, bedcoverings that should have been replaced, etc. The beds were comfortable, but the pillows were too firm for me. The air conditioning unit was quiet, our location was entirely unaffected by the proximity of the truckstop and the window treatments did a great job of keeping the room dark. Since the room entrances are exterior, the only noise came from the other patrons getting ready to depart quite early in the morning as the cars are parked directly outside the hotel rooms. We were exhausted and it didn't matter to us, but other travelers may have a problem with that. There is a tiny pool area which appeared clean but we didn't take the time to inspect it as it wasn't an amenity in which we were interested. The property is in need of updating but it worked for us an affordable, convenient place to stay.

hotel is close to highway 74/77 intersection at the west side of mount airy - very handy to access. and west pine st takes you to the blue ridge parkway access.
we got a ground floor room, with parking right in front.
hotel is up a bit of a hill, and set well back from the road - so generally very quiet.
room was clean, comfortable, and had a decent mattress.
front desk was friendly. only complaint was that access to the breakfast room meant walking out and around the front desk area (outside) in the rain. no inside access.
overall, a very good place to stay.

We stayed here on our way to Ohio for one night. It was clean and the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful with directions. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The only complaint that we had was the light shining from the stairwell into our room. The curtains could've been a couple of inches longer to block the light out. Overall it was a good stay and we will stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the stairwell will be better.
