“A mixed bag”

The hotel structure is very handsome and spotless, with more than adequate parking and a nice dining and lobby area. The pool looked clean and inviting, although we didn't use it. My disappointment was with noise. We could clearly hear a telephone conversation from an adjacent room through the wall, and it sounded like an elephant was continually walking in the room above us. Also, noise from the hallway and from people waiting for the elevator was conspicuous, as was the slamming of doors. Perhaps we were just in a room that was poorly located (ground floor). If we stay here again, we will ask to be on the top floor so no one will be above us, and at the end of a hall so we share only one wall with an adjacent room.

Room Tip: Avoid ground-floor rooms if you'd like to sleep.

Thank you for your comments regarding our Mt. Airy, NC Holiday Inn Express & Suites. We take great pride in our hotel and friendly staff and are happy we met most of your expectations.

Regarding the ground floor rooms, at times they can get a little noisy because of the pool, elevator, breakfast room and other guests going back and forth to their rooms. An upper floor room might be what you need. My recommendation would be to contact the front desk so we can handle the situation with another room being too noisy.

I do hope you give us another chance if you are travel takes you through the Mount Airy, North Carolina in the future.

Excellent choice if your planning a trip to the area. We stayed on our way to myrtle beach and chose this hotel because my sister was traveling w/ her blind dog. We had room 222, only negative was the dresser drawer wouldn't stay closed, overall great hotel and staff was friendly

We have stayed at this hotel multiple times. We have enjoyed it each time. Very relaxing spaces & comfortable rooms. Pool & hot tub were very nice. Nice place to stay. Close to restaurants & only minutes from downtown Mt Aury (Mayberry). Only issue I had was we booked through Travelocity & payment was made at time of booking but hotel was not notified until we made several calls.

I cannot tell you how to book your hotel room reservations but try booking directly with the hotel or the branded website to get the most accurate information and ease of payment.

We decided to go to Mount Airy for a quick getaway for one night this past Saturday. We loved this Holiday Inn Express. Upon check-in we were given a priority member's bag that contained bottled water and chips. Our room was ready on time -- we reserved a King Executive that was a large room with King bed, desk and flat screen tv. It was sparkling clean, not a spot of dirt anywhere. Linens were fluffy and fresh leading to the best sleep I've ever had in a hotel. The bed was firm and so very comfortable. The bathroom was also sparkling with a shower big enough for 2. After a good night's rest we went for breakfast at 7:30. It was very busy and the staff worked extra hard to keep up. We ate delicious scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, fruit, pancakes and they had more! This hotel is not far fromt he downtown are which made it an easy drive to get to the shopping area and to all the attractions. Loved it and hope to be back sometime!

First the good.... Janice at the front dest was a delight. Very helpful in all ways. Our room was clean with no problems.

The bad....Breakfast. Arrived at breakfast at 9am to find very little left. They even ran out of Splenda or Nutrasweet for the coffee. No sweet rolls. Broken pancake machine which had been broken for awhile according to an earlier review. I asked the girl if breakfast was over and thought that we were late. Nope...breakfast was to go on for another hour until 10am. I was told it was a busy morning and there would be no restocking of food.

Be advised this was today...a Sunday morning and they were not prepared for "a busy morning."

I would probably stay here again but I would be just as prepared to eat breakfast somewhere else as as they were unprepared for us.

Mr. Willard there is no excuse for your breakfast staff and their dismissive attitude.

Our goal is to meet your needs from a clean comfortable room to friendly staff and I can see that we met that goal at our front desk with Janice. I am so happy that you recognized her with outstanding service.

I would like to apologize for the breakfast not being there for you especially when you were looking forward to it and were disappointed. We did have extra staff that morning, but we fell short taking care of our guests’ needs that morning. Regarding the problem with the pancake machine, yes it has been down. We can get it to work and then quits again. We are working with the manufacture on resolutions to the problem. We are not the only Holiday Inn Express having that issue with the pancake machine.

I would like to thank you for your comments as we will address the issue with the breakfast bar not being fully stocked during breakfast hours.

We stayed here two nights Thursday the 27th and Friday the 28th. We have stayed at this hotel before and will return again. This hotel is clean and the staff was friendly. The only negative was breakfast. Previously we have stayed and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. This time at 8 am on Friday Morning there was nothing. Everything was empty. The famous cinnamon rolls were gone, the pancake maker wasnt working, the coffee was empty, there were no biscuits, eggs or sausage. I realize that Mayberry Days weekend is a busy time but wish that the hotel would have provided extra staff to ensure that the breakfast bar was kept full. Other than breakfast our stay was wonderful.

We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel. The staff was friendly, the hotel is well maintained and clean, and the rooms are nicely-sized and comfortable. It's also conveniently located. A nice addition to our "Mayberry" experience and a wise choice if you're staying in the area.

So many of us remember growing up with “The Andy Griffith Show” and the nostalgia we feel when visiting Mt. Airy.
