“Good Southern Fish Camp”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2011

We have done take outs from laneys for 30 years or more. It is always good and I especially like the vinegar base slaw they offer. We go to the resterant and dine in about 1 time a year. I forgot how much better and hotter everything is when it is fresh from the kitchen to the table. They have been an icon in mooresville for so many years. Everyone is always friendly and prices are good.

“Fantastic Ole Time Fried Seafood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2011

I ate at some great "fish camps" as a boy, but all are long gone. I wanted to re-visit those experiences so I did some research & came upon Laney's. We took the family for dinner Sat. night. It was much like I remembered the fish camps. The decor was plain, but very clean. The restaurant could easily be missed in passing. No flashing lights, no exotic colors. The food was excellent! Please remember: ole southern style fish camps = fresh fried seafood. If we were in search of crab legs or oyster Rockefeller, we would have gone elsewhere. The six in our party were in search of the ole style fried dishes. Laney's fit the bill. The salt & pepper catfish & flounder were the best I've eaten in a very long time. The fried oysters & ole style fan-tail shrimp were great. The taste & even shape of the fan-tail (old term) shrimp were different from regular fried jumbo shrimp of most of today's restaurants. It was a very nice change. The clam strips were good. The tartar sauce was spectacular. It was so nice to try this wonderful home-made sauce again. The hushpuppies were sweet & melt in your mouth tender. They even provided us with a sample of fried onion rings while we waited for our food. The portions were large (we took food home) & the price was very economical. The wait staff was also great - very attentive & even proud of the place. We will definitely make the hour plus long drive again.

“Homemade tartar sauce & onion rings - YUM!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2011

If you are going here expecting New England style seafood, this "fish camp" is not for you.

If you want the best homemade tartar sauce, onion rings, and small yummy hushpuppies to eat with your fried salt and pepper catfish &/or shrimp, come on in! You even now have the choice of the original oil and vinegar slaw or "mayonnaise" slaw.

We've been coming here forever, and it is still family owned and operated.

“Possibly the worst fried fish”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2011

The title says it all. Possibly the worst fried fish I have ever had, other than Mrs. Paul's fish sticks. Dry, tasteless batter. Clams were right out of a bag. Don't bother.

“Laney's The BEST Southern Seafood Resturant ( FIsh Camp )”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2010

Obviously the folks that did not like Laney's are not from this area in the south. Laney's has the vinegar and oil slaw that most of us love and associate with a fish camp. Fish camp is what we grew up calling a "fried seafood" resturant here in North Carolina. Laney's seafood is AWESOME. Their tartar sauce is the one made by squeazing the dill pickles in cheese cloth to remove the juice so that the dill doesnt take over in the tartar sauce, rather than the one made with mayo and sweet pickles that to me is nasty. I would buy Laney's tartar sauce to take home!! Their hushpuppies are exactly what Seafood lovers in NC have always expected with their seafood. Pop in your mouth goodness in a small ball. THe larger hushpuppies with onion on them is what we expect to see with pork bbq. Not with our fish plate. Laney's ice tea should probably have been ordered as Sweet Tea but people want to come to a wonderful southern style resturant, and try to change their plates to suit a totally different style. Open your mind and experience true southern fried seafood at Laney's!! It's awesome. I drive from the northern end of Iredell county just TO eat at Laneys and the price is extremely reasonable for such a large plate of food.
