“We will definitely revisit....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

We used Trip Advisor to check the reviews on hotels in the Matthews areas, and saw that the Marriot Courtyard in Mattews got stars for being a good value for the money, and they were right... The hotel was so close to where we were visiting, all parts of Charlotte were a close drive as well. Our stay included the breakfast bar, and that was worth the cost of admission...
Our room was clean, neat, and away from the main street, very quiet. The next time we visit Mattews we will stay at the Marriot Courtyard.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room on the side or back .

have stayed at this hotel several times in the past 6 months and have found it to be a great value for the dollar. It is conveniently located at the interchange of US 74 and I-485 in southeast Charlotte. This is one of the newer style of Courtyard kicked up a few notches. This property has wings which allow the courtyard to sit in a “U” which adds to privacy. The outdoor area is nicely designed and even has grills. The property is well maintained and the balconies on the room I have stayed have all been deeper and more protected than the usual Courtyard. I definitely recommend requesting a room on the backside of the hotel. You are looking at the courtyard and facing away from the main road.
There is plenty of dining and shopping options close by. The only odd thing about the property is your entry and exit. Once you know the trick, it isn’t a big deal. I highly recommend you ask the staff about your access options when you check in.

I stayed at this hotel or about 10 weeks recently, an had about as good of a stay a can be had for that long in a hotel. All of the staff were more then helful an friendly, especially Brian the Gm who helped me jump my car when my battery died, and Erin one of the front desk staff who was always a joy to talk to. I love the cookies at the front desk and the hot tub is pretty sweet too. All in all would stay here again and refer it family in friends traveling to matthews.

This hotel is a great place to stay. I have stayed here several times now for business and will not stay at any other hotel in the area. The rooms are of good and very clean and come equipped with a fridge and microwave in case you have leftovers from one of the many good restaurants located within a short distance of the hotel. The service staff is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that is looking to stay in the area.

We have stayed at this hotel in the past and it has been excellent. In the past I have highly recommeneded them for their outstanding service. However, our last stay, over Thanksgiving weekend 2010, it was a DISASTER for some of the unfortunate guests who parked on the backside of the hotel.

When we came out in the morning to load our luggage, two of the cars right next to us had been broken into 'Smash and Grab' style. We were very fortunate that we were not a victim ourselves, perhaps because we did not leave anything in the car that might look valuable.

The shocking news is that we learned this is a frequent occurrence! There is an adjacent residential street 30 yards away. There is NO fence, No security cameras, No supplemental lighting, No private security! And the police treat it as a statistic. There is NO investigation (No CSI). The hotel is well aware of the problem but has chosen NOT to take any action to protect its hotel guests.

Until the hotel or Marriott corporate takes action I will NEVER stay at that hotel again!! BUYER BEWARE!!

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at the Courtyard by Marriott Matthews. I have reviewed your comments and would like to share with you information regarding your experience.

You reported that two cars were broken into during your stay. In these difficult times and holiday season, we have unfortunately seen an increase in crime throughout Matthews, NC—not limited to our hotel. We have a great relationship with our local police departments and nightly rounds are made by police officers every hour. All staff members are trained on security measures and are reminded to let our guests know to leave nothing valuable in plain sight in their vehicle. We have noticed that this makes a significant difference.

Our ultimate to goal is to make our guests feel right at home, and we want to keep you safe. We have had a meeting with each department to ensure that proper communication is taking place regarding any crime issues.

Please accept my sincere apology for the problems you experienced while staying at the Courtyard by Marriott. The feedback you have provided is helping us to improve our hotel. Thanks, and we hope you enjoy your holidays.

Travelled to Charlotte for our sons wedding, we booked two Marriotts for our five day visit, the first being the Courtyard at Matthews on recommendation and the second at Biltmore for our sons wedding.

The hotel looks like most of the American happy and now, somewhat expensive hotels!

The interior of the hotel is spacious and welcoming as are the staff, everything we requested we got and it was accompanied with a warm smile (which I would add went for everyone in Charlotte that we met during our stay, including the Tyre fitter who mended our puncture).

Room was spotlessly clean as were all of the public and pool areas.

Rooms are large, containing a football pitch size bed and a bed settee, bathrooms are dated in comparrisson to other hotels we have used in the USA, with the sink being in shared dressing area.

Our room was at the back so I can not comment on noise levels, but the main road outside never seemed over noisy even during rush hour. The Hotel is about twenty minutes outside of Charlotte Downtown, which can be seen as you drive down Indipendence Highway.

Tip: When driving to the hotel from the airport via downtown, turn left at Wendys just before the hotel, necxt right and then 200yds on right drive through the church car park into the hotel, this prevents a 1,000 yard drive down the main highway to swing round and get back to the hotel.

Food: Breakfast is very nice with loads of choice, unfortunately it will cost you $5.95 to taste it in addition to your room at $149 + Endless taxes, sun tax, city tax, tyre tax, food tax, etc, etc ......
Golden Coral two blocks down is excellent and cheap $6 all you can eat, nothing like the tacky old Ponderossa in Florida.
Cracker Barrel, two miles on the right (Towards Charlotte) Fantastic food and service.
The Cheesecake Factory in South Mall, to die for (Made famous by The Big Bang Theory on TV, be prepared to wait but it's worth it.

Would I go back, every time I visit Charliotte starting now!

Travel: Flights to Charlotte via Frankfurt from Birmingham International, excellent, Lufthansa on the first leg and then B & Q Airlines for the long haul (US Airways) the flight attendents made my Mum feel young again as they were all within ten years of her!

Dont forget to complete your ESTA before going as the green cards are now gone for ever and you will not be allowed in without your ESTA.

Traveled with a 12u softball team. Was impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel and hotel staff was nice and tolerant of 15 girls. Had some non-guests sneak in back gate to go swimming. They went as far as to change clothes in the hot tub room with me and my 7 year old son sitting there. My major problem with this hotel is that when we got home, within a few days I had $432 in charges from the hotel and only a receipt for $296, which resulted in an overdraft charge on my account. They are supposed to be resolving this issue. Another thing that they didn't tell me is that there is a refundable $20 per night "incidentals" charge that they take out too.
