A group of seven riders set out on our 14th annual Spring ride that, this year, would take us to the Wheels Through Time Museum at Maggie Valley, NC, as one of our stops. We began our annual pilgrimages with strict planning of nightly stops and even gas stops done way in advance. A few years ago, with the advent of smartphones, we found that making plans on the fly more suited our needs. Last week, as we stopped for gas in Tennessee, a couple of days prior to our stop at Maggie Valley, I went to Trip Advisor to check the lodging situation at Maggie Valley for our upcoming arrival and lo and behold, I found A Holiday Motel, with overwhelmingly positive remarks and decided to call and book four (4) rooms for us as they were nearly sold out. The rate listed on the internet was $59/night which I felt was unbelievably inexpensive! On our arrival a day later after another amazing day of great riding, we pulled into the parking lot and on entering the office, Gabby had our reservations waiting and never missed a beat when I told her we had reservations. She was almost clairvoyant, never even asked my name! I was reassured that we'd made the right choice, seeing the parking area in front of the rooms filled with motorcycles! We'd really found a home! Gabby gave us the run down of what was available to see and do, eating recommendations and the museum particulars and we parked and stowed our gear in our rooms and walked across the lot to an inviting swimming pool, the air temperature was in the 90 degree neighborhood and we'd been riding all day! Maggie Valley would lead someone to believe it to be a low lying area, but we were nestled in the Smokey Mountains, with nearby mountains rising up around us, a beautiful and scenic spot! When we were finished at the pool, we went over by our rooms and ended up sitting in the fleet of rocking chairs, swapping stories and odering pizzas from the pizza shop down the street. While we were at the pool, Gabby was kind enough to drop a bucket and towels off for us to clean our motors! The beds and pillows were comfortable and provided us with a great night's sleep and it was great to wake the next morning and open the front door to a great Smokey Mountain view! We walked to the attached diner for a great home cooked breakfast and set off down the road for a spectacular visit to Wheels Through Time and then continued on with our journey. Holiday Motel couldn't have been a better stop for us and we plan to return next year using it as a base for some more great riding through the Smokies! The icing on the cake was that I never asked Gabby for a rate when I called to reserve the rooms, I presumed it would be $59/night. I was more than pleasantly surprised to find that our rate was only $49 per night, a bargain we could never have expected! Many thanks to Gabby and the Holiday for a wonderful stay and great hospitality and we can't wait to get back there next year! I can't recommend this place enough!
