“worth stopping in and eating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2014

in september 2014 it was my fourth stop in to the mountaineer restaurant... we came across it in 2009 while traveling across to Bryson City, NC I make it a habit a must to stop in and eat and enjoy the food and the people and the view. the view from the outside porch is georgous. I have went different times of the year and every time has been great. Worth stopping in and enjoying the view the food the service and the wonderful people. Can't wait for our next visit.

“True Hometown Place--MUST VISIT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2014

Any time we travel we make it a point to choose only local eateries. I found this one on TripAdvisor. We went tonight at the start of our Thanksgiving vaca. Knowing the town is turning into a ghost town, since it is at the end of the season, we called to make sure they were open. When we got there, there was only one other table then it was quickly just us when they finished up. We had a variety of an order but after the waitress finished writing it down, she went in the back and made it herself. (Reminded me of Green Acres lol) I wish I could remember her name because she was great.
The food was outstanding.

We actually already reviewed the menu and will be going back tomorrow morning for breakfast.

“Not noticed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2014 via mobile

we tried to have dinner at this restaurant tonight. We weren't greeted. Finally I asked if there was a hostess or if it was seat yourself, her reply was sit anywhere. There a was a young lady singing in the dining room and it was overpowering. After waiting and talking to my family, we all decided it was too loud and after 10 minutes we weren't offered service so we left. I fairly confident they didn't even notice. We were concerned from the get go when we saw only 1 couple there eating. Not again

“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2014

Slow down around the curve and do not miss The Mountaineer! Even if you don't see any other cars, stop and have a home-cooked meal. Dining at this restaurant is like eating with family! Our server was so friendly and even the cook came out to make sure everyone was happy and had everything we needed (we were and we did). We had breakfast and everything was hot, fresh, and delicious! The Mountaineer is open year round, offering great views, a cozy atmosphere, and top quality comfort food.

“Excellent views and food!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2014

We ate breakfast here for our 3 day stay. It is about 3 miles outside of Maggie Valley, but well worth the drive. Soco Falls and an observation tower are only a short drive from it. The views are fantastic and it was not crowded. It is definitely a hidden gem. Every restaurant in Maggie Valley had a line on Saturday except this one. I was only expecting very average food, but it was very tasty. If you dine here, you will come back. I would have probably tried lunch or dinner, but we were always driving to the many sites in the area during those times.
